What would you do with my centerpieces?

What would you do with my centerpieces? 1

I saw a post about guests stealing wedding centerpieces, and this got me thinking... what on earth am I going to do with my centerpieces after the wedding?! We are having a destination wedding, so I doubt people are going to want to take home large floral arrangements on a plane. (We have a few guests that are going to drive instead of fly, so maybe they would want to?) They could make their hotel rooms pretty for a couple days I suppose, but it seems like such a waste to let them sit in a room then be thrown away. We are getting married in New Orleans, and we are going barhopping immediately after the reception. Our venue is a hotel, and the reception space is only used on the weekends as an event space. Aside from giving them to guests or just handing them to random strangers on Bourbon Street (LOL) do you have any fun/creative ideas on what I could do with them??

Maybe check to see if their is a senior citizens home/complex or hospital nearby that would accept them as a donation? (Not sure if there are Covid-related reasons that couldn't happen.)

Donate them to a local nursing home!

I did actually think of this as well, but there are no facilities like this in the French Quarter, which is where we will be staying & we will not have vehicles since everything is walkable in the FQ.

Honestly let the florist take them back as is typically done. Often, you can make arrangements with the florist to have dropped off at a nursing home or funeral parlor so others can enjoy. Most people in reality do not steal centerpieces. In some social circles it is common to take them home but that is announced beforehand. If no announcement is made, they ate left on the tables and the host may or may ask if anyone wants them. It's common to rent vases and containers rather than buying, most guests are aware of and leave them be.

At a destination wedding, I cannot imagine anyone stealing them, especially something that big. Make arrangements with the florist for pickup after.

I would talk to the florist to see if they are able to help get them to a local hospital or senior center if you aren’t able to get them there.

Thanks Michelle! I didn’t even know having the florist take them back was a thing! I will have to ask her if this is a possibility. It may not be since she is not located in the French Quarter (where the wedding is being held) & I am having to pay a travel fee for her to drop them off. Definitely don’t want to pay another fee to have them picked up later.
I never heard of guests stealing centerpieces from weddings until I saw that post! LOL But hey, I would highly encourage them to do so at my wedding! 😂😂 I was hoping to find a fun use for them - the frugal side of me can’t bear the thought of spending $2000 on flowers just to have them go in the trash and die 😫

If the florist isn't able to pick them up, call a local funeral home and see if someone can come get them from you at a pre-arranged time. That way another family can enjoy them who might not have funds for their own.

Maybe a local church would want to take them for distribution to people in their congregation who would enjoy them. I'm sure you don't want to spend much time on this, but I'd think there have to be some social service/charitable organizations who would love to handle them. Good luck!

Yes, donate them to a nursing home or hospital! My venue was able to help set up coordination for that.

I've heard of people donating them to nursing homes or hospitals. My friend actually owns a nursing home in New Orleans. If you are interested let me know and we can see if we can arrange you donating them.

I didn't think about this. Hmm I will look into the nursing home if they still look good by the end of the night.

    Are there hospitals?
If not/they won't take them, you could also offer them to the event staff.

I can't believe people steal centerpieces!!! That is insane to me lol.

I would suggest finding somewhere to donate them. Your event staff might also enjoy taking one home.

I have seriously contemplated doing this! LOL we will be walking with our guests, our photographer and videographer through the streets of the French Quarter to our first destination. I thought about handing out little bunches to random people, or even tossing them like parade confetti in the streets! Lol Another idea I thought about last night was maybe taking them the next day to the cemetery tour we are going on. We could at least lay them on tombs there. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Thank you!! I have actually emailed my florist to see if she coordinates anything like this. If not, I will probably shoot you an email closer to our wedding date!

Oooooo I never thought of that! Having worked in the bar and restaurant industry during college, I know a lot of event staffers are young and struggling. Maybe some of them could take home a beautiful bouquet of flowers to their significant others 💕

It could be like “trash the dress“ photos, but “trash the flowers” instead! 😆
