What would you do...

Tanyia, on January 27, 2020 at 9:31 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 13
It’s your wedding day. You are a hair and make up artist for television by trade. You did 2 hair trials and they were good, just not as much pizzazz as you like. You tried make up, and you found yourself giving the girls a few pointers, but it looked better than the hair. The prices are a little outrageous for what you’re getting considering you have to “help” the stylists, yet and still - working in a salon vs. on a set is completely different.

Question - it’s your wedding day... do you do — get over the price & just your own hair & make up or just hair? Just make up?
What would you do?

I think it's the same as warning professional bakers not to baker their own cakes. The day of, you'll have enough going on without having to worry about your own hair and makeup. The other side of the coin is you being a professional you might just want to do it yourself and save yourself the headache. Ultimately it'll be how you feel your day will go best.

Is it possible to find someone else who is better? I know your wedding is soon.

I agree that you will be more stressed trying to do your own hair and makeup day of so it's really knowing yourself. Maybe have them do makeup and you can do your hair since that's what the struggled with

I will be doing my own makeup on my wedding day because I just like how I do it better. I have contracted a makeup artist for my bridal party and she can do my makeup if I'm having a mental breakdown or something. But I still prefer my makeup applications to anyone else's. If you can do it better than someone else, then do it. Personally any time I have gotten my makeup professionally done I didn't like it. Doing your own hair might be hard though.

I would try another person for my hair and makeup if I wasn’t satisfied.

Haha! Great analogy. For the price of the hair - I had to help like 50% - that was the headache. I could have just done my own. I have very curly hair which has to be blown straight and then curled (it takes a level of skill to blow it super straight)... I think I will do my own hair (I have a vision for what I expect it to look like) and then let them do my make up. Thank you for helping me decide!

How many trials do you do? I already have done 2 @ $85-100. If I weren't getting married out of state, I wouldn't have the issue - sigh.

Agreed - I think I will do my own hair and let the woman do my make up.

I feel you 100%! I have voluminous curly hair which has to be blown straight and then curled (it takes a level of skill to blow it super straight)... I definitely do it best and without risking heat damage. I will do my own hair to spare the headache.

Oh I didn’t realize you’ve done 2 already. Yeah that’s rough. Doing your own hair and makeup sounds like the best option to be satisfied with the outcome and to avoid paying for additional trials.

I’m also getting married out of state. But I’m not doing a trial. I’ve had to book all of my vendors based on their conversations, websites, emails and reviews. As for my hair/makeup artist, she’s the only vendor who I already knew I wanted. She’s fairly popular in Las Vegas and I’ve seen lots of her bridal work on Instagram. So I’m confident that she’ll do fine with my hair and makeup (simple bridal eyes and side swept hair with curls for the ceremony and then taking it down for the reception). But like you, I’m also a MUA. I just don’t desire to do my own makeup that day. However, if the need arises I know that I can tackling any fixes.

I’m sure I could find some AMAZING talent in Vegas, butttttt it’s Rhode Island. ((Whomp womp)) I’m gonna go for my own hair and let them do make up. I’m too scared 🤣
