Option b

Ooh, this is a tough one. Where did you hear that your venue may be closing? Would you lose out on any money if you switch venues?

For clarification, is your venue possibly closing temporarily due to Covid restrictions? Or possibly closing permanently due to lack of revenue during the pandemic?

How much would you have to do extra in catering through the second venue? Is it their in-house or just someone approved on their list?

They may be willing to make an exception if you told them that your venue was closing after their losses from Covid and that you already had your vendors lined up.

I assume option A is your current venue? Seems they would already be closed if Covid was the reason. As many shut down indefinitely when the outbreak started. I understand that "maybe" is not an option when you need a definite answer.

Is the other venue the only alternative you have? Try eventective.com to see what is in your area. The length of time they have operated is irrelevant especially when your current venue is closing and it could have been around just as long.

The requirement of using their caterer would be a hard pass for me because places like that don't let anyone do tastings until long after you book them and are locked into what may not be all that appetizing. They also have 5 figure food/drink minimums you must meet.

    Best of luck

It's on their approved list we are looking at around an extra 2 thousand which is not in the budget but can be if needed, or we could have our current catering company but would have to pay a fee to the venue of 1,000.00

So the rumor is they will be closing permanently? If that is the case, if I were in your situation I would definitely secure another venue. Whether they close permanently or whether you get another venue, unfortunately either way you are going to be out your deposit. Just as well make sure you have a location for your wedding locked down. And with so many couples moving their weddings out to 2022, other venues may not be available for much longer.

If it were me, I would switch venues and pay the $1,000 to use your current caterer rather than $2,000 to use one of theirs.

Does option B offer open bar per head cost? If so I would go with option B. But before you sign the contract, you must must must must make sure that they are going to be upfront with all of the hidden fees! For example, will they allow you to do DIY decor or do you have to go through their decor company? If so this could run you an extra 10 grand. I would ask to see sample prices oh final invoices. I definitely would not go with the place that would potentially close, because Covid’s been bad enough with weddings. The last thing you need is for your venue to close

I would go with option b. Aside from the benefits, I would be at peace knowing my wedding will actually happen lol.

Personally, I would find a new venue just for the peace of mind of knowing that I definitely have a venue. Would the second venue allow you to put a soft hold on your date while you wait it out and see if your current venue actually closes?

You do have a tough choice. I understand that you may love the first option, however, if was me, especially during the covid situations, I have had to postpone my wedding 4 times, and it has cost me so much more money and more headache then I can bare. If it was me, I would not go with a maybe. I would choose option B because having that maybe sitting in your head is going to give you so much more grief then is needed. Either way, it sounds like both places are beautiful. Good luck with everything.
