So I am so grateful for my FH family. His mom and step-dad have offered to pay for the rehearsal dinner. Today his mom talked to me and said we can pick two options.
She said we can have it at a hall, that charges X amount of money per person, and would end up being around 2k. OR we can have it at a firehouse hall (his step dad is a firefighter so its free) and they would get it catered and supply the liquor. Then whatever money would be left for the 2k we can have to save for a house or use toward the wedding.
The only dilemma is that the firehouse I guess wouldn't be as nice as a formal dinner, but I'm not sure our families would care. Would you take the nicer dinner or would you take the money?
