What's After The Wedding?

What will your next life event be after your wedding is over? Are you planning to go back to school? Start a family? Buy a house? Take a vacation? Start a new career?

Our plan is to enjoy being married for a while. Have our honeymoon for our 6 month or even 1 year anniversary. Finish school, continue to rent our apartment, save money. Maybe start a family in 5 years. No rush to tag on bigger milestones. Unpopular opinion- I think some people get married and feel the need to have it all together and start immediately getting a house and start having kids without even giving the marriage time to grow and adapt. Just my opinion 😊

So true, Lala. I took decades to get my life together first before I even considered marriage. Co-planning the wedding was even a whole new ballgame. Best wishes to you.

We aren’t planning any major changes after we get married in January. It’s shaping up to look like 2023 will be all about vacations/traveling 😆 but I’m not complaining! We leave for our honeymoon a week after our wedding in late January, then in March I’m going to Italy for work and my fiancé is hoping he can tag along. Then in late summer we are headed to Scotland as I have been deferring a trip I already paid a deposit on for 3 years thanks to Covid. Other than that, we have a house and want to wait at least a year before we consider a baby. My fiancé is also trying to get his career off the ground so that will be the major focus.

Sorry to hear that the marriage changed your tax situation! My husband and I haven't crossed that bridge yet, but we'll find out what ours will be like this next tax season. 😬 Never too late to have the financial conversations! And awesome that you're redecorating! Definitely not a cheap task, but worth it for the end result.

Ooh, I hadn't ever considered Egypt either, but that would be a fun and unique place for a honeymoon! If you end up going there for your honeymoon, I hope you'll share photos on these forums, I'd love to hear how it went!

Great idea to give it a year for things to calm down and to rebuild the bank account. Buying a house is so exciting, it's fun to look through different floor plans and envision your life in the house. Also exciting about planning to start a family! Best wishes on house hunting, I hope you find the perfect house to raise your family in!

Hey Lisa Congratulations on your wedding and we are settling in we are trying to redo 2 rooms in our place. Switching out some old with some new replacing some furniture some fresh color paint for the walls. Waiting for our wedding pictures we ordered for the walls. And then making a decision on where we want to go for our Honeymoon. Because we didn't take one because he had to go back to work and I am waiting for my insurance to approve my othro surgery consult for my back. It held up good enough to let me enjoy my wedding day and party after. We have. Been to alot of function ppl had for us and family events then Thanksgiving came. So I'm popped out lol lol. How are things going for you guys

Lol I totally understand the post-wedding cleanup! I had (incorrectly) thought that once the wedding day was over, we'd just need to write thank you notes and then it was all over. I hadn't factored in the vendor reviews, preserving my bouquet, cleaning and preserving my dresses, selling leftover wedding decor, ordering a wedding photo album, etc, in addition to writing the thank you notes. The holidays are a fun way to wind down and regroup from the wedding! And how exciting that you'll start house hunting soon! Enjoy!!

Lol I'm so with you. I honestly didn't even mind that it took a while to get our sneak peeks back from the photographer since it gave me an excuse to put off thank you notes for a bit. I'm hoping by the time the notes arrive I'll have my dress cleaning/ shortening in the works, and then we get our thank you notes written before we get all our pictures back and have to start working on albums, ordering prints, etc. We'll see how well those plans work out with all the holiday festivities coming up 😅

I love your plan to just enjoy the marriage!! I feel like it's something people often forget to do. I agree with your opinion that people sometimes rush into the next phase without taking the time to enjoy the current stage. Some people are ready for that next step immediately after marriage, though other people may benefit from taking some time to build the marriage first before the next step.

Oh wow, you have lots of fun trips planned for 2023! So exciting! Where are you planning to go for your honeymoon? And that makes sense to wait for a bit before considering starting a family - taking time to enjoy the marriage first is a good idea.

It's amazing what some new paint and fresh decor can do to a home! Getting new furniture is exciting too, it's always nice to have something comfortable to relax on after a long day. Sounds like you've both been busy since the wedding, but sounds like mostly fun events. I don't blame you for needing a break lol! And good to hear that your back held up throughout the wedding events. Congratulations on your wedding! Where are you thinking you'll go for your honeymoon?

Things have been going well for us, thank you for asking! Since the wedding, we've bought a house, and are in the process of doing some minor renovations. We also went on our honeymoon, which was incredible and well worth the wait from postponing from 2020! We finally ordered our wedding photo album, and are just waiting on our wedding videos to be finished. Otherwise, just enjoying married life!

Hi Lisa you both have been busy too we are thinking about the Florida,Poconos or somewhere on the Virgnia Islands for a week. But will definitely be for next year but trying to narrow it down then book it at a reasonable price of course. But I did tell him nowhere cold I don't like cold weather people think since my birthday is in October that I like Autumn and the cold. I tell people that I was born in Indian summer so it was hot when I was born. And it was hot when we gotten married too all that week was hot and I love it. Congratulations on the house purchase and we are about to order our wedding photos too. It was nice to hear that everything is going well with both as well.

Lol, the holidays definitely toss a wrench into the mess of trying to get through all the post-wedding tasks! One task at a time is a good way to get through it all.
