Anyone seen New Girl? Doesn't matter what song is playing, my BM's are going to do the slow mo chicken dance anyway, haha.

My DNP is mostly anything by Britney, at least since 2004, the Biebs, Nickleback...

DNP no "gangster rap" per my mom, no country music (with the exception of the father/daughter dance since my dad loves it) no heavy metal, no bieber/boy bands, no "group dances" like the macarena/chicken dance, etc...there are a bunch of specific songs on it

The biggest conflict was for techno...my FH and his whole family love it (they played it during Easter dinner lol) but my family can't stand it....so I made them compromise and told the DJ no techno until after 10pm.

Whoa, you guys have a lot of Do Not Play songs.

Ours is mostly heavy metal, "gangster rap" and that song "Pumped up Kicks". Beyond that, we are pretty open to a lot of music.

Lol Judith! Love the slow mo chicken dance. Alllllright.

H is a music snob and he literally picked every single song he wanted the DJ to play. His do not play list was ridiculously long and included Journey and all other 80s/90s rock ballads, all songs that cause people to do choreographed dances, etc etc. He forgot to add "showtunes" to the list though (because in his mind they don't exist), so somebody requested "You're the one that I want" from Grease and now he's caught on video dancing to it for all eternity. He's smiling in the video but 5 seconds before that he said to me, "Man, why didn't I ban showtunes? I hate this song." lol.

My do not play list was pretty simple since he already vetoed a lot of stuff. I basically just vetoed his really long trance songs. I get it buddy, you love trance. But it's a wedding, not a rave. Keep it together. Smiley smile

I don't want a lot of old school type of music, ymca, macarena, chicken dance, congo, A few classics, but I don't want to feel like I'm a 60 year old having a party, esp since I am only 26. I seriously want to feel like I am at a great club keeping me on the dance floor... but I do want salsa music, a few rock songs, limit the country too.

Some very excellent "do not play" songs here Smiley smile

No electric slide, YMCA, or other similar songs. A MUST!

I will be copying some of your suggestions i.e. beiber (who?), silly pop music, and such Smiley laugh

We seriously micro-managed our play list. DH is a dancing fool and we know what makes our crowd get up and dance. He danced on American Band Stand and on a local Philly show. We gave our DJ detailed instructions. Because we are old tarts, we wanted our dinner music to be the classic rock bands we have seen over the last ten years. Our dance mix was a nice combo of danceable classic rock; yes disco(albeit limited); Motown; Oldies; 80's alternative and 90's club music.

Our "Do Not Play List Was Extensive"

    • Kool and the Gang Celebrate

    • YMCA , Hokey Pokey, Mexican Hat Dance

    • Sister Sledge We are Family

    • Gloria Gainor I Will Survive

    • Neil Diamond Sweet Caroline

    • Van Morrisson Brown Eyed Girl

    • Meat Loaf Paradise by the Dashboard Lights

    • Celine Dion Titanic Song

    • Bob Sieger Old Time Rock and Roll

    • Anything by Bruce Springstein and Rod Stewart

    • Anything Rap, Blue Grass, Gospel or Techno

No "participation" songs (Electric Slide, Chicken Dance, Hokey Pokey). Although, we will make an exception for Thriller and The Time Warp (Rocky Horror Picture Show)

If I play "Mony Mony" my dad will disown me.

We have Love Shack, Shout, Jump... those are classics and you have to have some songs that people know the words too. I hate "We Are Family" too, but I didn't create DNP list. Specifically told the DJ if it has curse words (very explicit curse words), or is RAP it's a No. And if he hasn't heard of the song, it shoudl not be played.

    OMG Sweet Caroline!!!!

I almost forgot to put that on there! I hate that song with a passion. It's a staple at Long Island weddings and tradition I do not want following me down here.

Also anything by Meat Loaf will get my DJ fired on the spot, lol

I haven't compiled my list yet, but I will tell him no line dances back to back! Nothing is worse that being tired out from one, and then they jump right into another line dance to keep the floor packed. They're way more good songs out there to get the crowd going.

Mines just not a bunch of songs by the same artist or anything offensive. Im asking him to play the Cupid shuffle/Electic slide it gets people dancing. Also I want him to bring it up and drop it down. IE couple fast songs then a slow dance. Not all fast dance songs.
