What’s the 411 on Engagement Parties

Amber, on July 13, 2022 at 5:25 PM Posted in Parties and Events 0 16
Am I the only one who is shying away from an engagement party? Are there any special memories that I might miss out on if I don’t have one? I was thinking of doing a get together with our bridal party so they can meet and get their gifts but that’s it 👀

We did ours as a get together. It was at our place. We hang out often with our people so it was kinda like any other Friday/Saturday evening. We provided food and everyone brought their own alcohol they wanted to drink. We played games and listened to music. Didn’t pass out any gifts though. It’s not necessary to have one, you could definitely just have your bridal party together for a nice celebration.

I've always viewed engagement parties as just a way to celebrate being engaged with those you're closest with (like your immediate family and close friends). If it's not your thing then there's no need to have one out of obligation Smiley smile

We had a surprise engagement dinner, for our close friends and family. I am so glad we did a lot of planning, and it turned out so nicely ❤️

I wouldn’t worry at all about not having an engagement party- a ton of couples are choosing not to have them. They are basically just a dinner hosted in the couple’s honor (although some couple’s host them themselves).

We didn’t have one! I’m also not doing a bridal shower or bachelorette. It’s just honestly not my kind of thing. It’s totally up to you what kind of celebrations you want to do

We didn’t have one, primarily due to COVID cases increasing (and the vaccine wasn’t available yet), but in our social circle, it isn’t very common to have one anyway. We did, however, invite a few of our married friends over for a dinner and a champagne tasting a few months later.

Engagement parties are completely optional. Some circles turn them into a mini wedding and others have never heard of them outside of a Law and Order episode. Don’t expect gifts at these. Don’t invite anyone whom you will not be inviting to the wedding. Do not give equally optional proposal gifts in a group setting and don’t ask anyone to be an attendant before 6 months before the wedding.

We didn’t do an engagement party because they are not a thing among our families and friends and those people are scattered everywhere across the country.
