What's the craziest wedding you've ever been to?

Melissa, on July 5, 2016 at 9:57 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 48

This past weekend a good friend of mine got married. Her fiancé (now husband!) is Greek and it just so happened that his sister was also engaged. Since majority of their family would be flying in from Greece, to avoid them having to make two trips, the family decided to have a double wedding! Two ceremonies, two brides, two grooms, one huge reception with 650 people!!! Idk if any of you have ever been to a Greek or Albanian wedding, but they sure do know how to party! My family is Albanian so I knew what to expect...but it was still such a fun wedding! And very well organized (surprisingly)!!

What is the craziest wedding you've been to?!

    Oy.

I could tell you but I'd have to kill you. But we have seen it all...sunrises (I don't recommend that), costume (I don't recommend that) and several weddings at Starbucks and in cars.

Dang. All the weddings I've been to have been pretty tame compared to that.

I was at a wedding where the groom was the drunkest person there and fell into his own cake. It was a good time...but glad it wasn't my wedding Smiley winking

I've officiated at a drug rehab center, McDonald's parking lot, Starbucks, food court at the mall.

I've 'married' two dogs and I've 'married' two radio DJs to their listeners.

I've officiated weddings where I was not allowed to take pics because there was a 'celebrity' present (no, I didn't recognize anyone).

I've officiated 2 weddings in the dark (was supposed to be sunset) because each one had a late bride.

I've officiated 1 double wedding (see my avatar).

Just recently, I officiated a vow renewal for 5 couples representing 3 generations of 1 family.

When I was 13, I was a junior bridesmaid in my 18 year old (at the time) cousin's wedding that was held in the groom's parent's backyard. I got bad vibes from the father of the groom from the beginning during the pre-ceremony. He was just weird and obnoxious. So during the ceremony procession as I was walking down the aisle, he jumped up right in front of me stopping me dead in my tracks, and started screaming at their dog for wandering around. I was embarrassed and pissed. 18 years later and it still makes my blood boil just thinking about it. ETA: spelling

One wedding at my father-in-law's venue had a bride that got so drunk she peed all over the place. The same wedding also had the cops called on them twice: the first time because they were making so much noise and the second due to a heated custody battle in the parking lot.

Hahaha, I'm greek, but our wedding isn't going to be huge. We do know how to party though!!

Last year my cousin got married, greek church and the whole shebang. We did the greek dance in a circle and I think I may have had a little too much wine! It was wild... super fun though.

My cousin's wedding was at a hunting reserve. Nothing screams love like the sound of shotguns taking the life out of some poor animal in the background.

At my cousin's wedding, the minister gave a looooong speech before the vows about how half of all marriages end in divorce, and 'John and Jane' both have divorced parents, so they know first-hand just how hard marriage is, and what a big commitment they're making.

It was SO uncomfortable. If there's one word that should never be uttered during a wedding ceremony, it's 'divorce.' Yeesh.

It wasn't necessarily crazy, but just all around odd--a high school classmate had their wedding/reception at the town's rodeo grounds. So the reception was literally in the building that had horse crap all over the ground just days before. All they played was country music, which almost made my ears bleed.

And I'm sure everyone will appreciate this: It was BYOB. There is a gas station across the highway that sells alcohol, so people were literally running back and forth all night!

The craziest was a Macedonian / Portuguese wedding (bride was Macedonian, groom was Portuguese) with 450 people. There was a bizarre money dance in which the groomsmen danced around the reception hall carrying a whole roasted pig on a platter. Guests tossed bills onto the pig (large bills - 20s, 50s, 100s) as the GM pranced around and music played. It went on for a good 20 minutes. The pig was then served at a midnight buffet.

I googled it later and apparently the pig dance is a Macedonian tradition.

The midnight buffet also had huge amounts of seafood which is a Portuguese tradition.

At my cousin's wedding a few years ago, her mom (my aunt) was her MOH .. Her mom got SO shit faced before her speech that they took the mic away from her. Someone also broke her leg on the dance floor and the cops showed up.

At my aunts wedding in '99 (same aunt mentioned above; cousin mentioned above was her MOH and I was the flower girl) someone fell into a glass table and had to go to the hospital and some drunk guy took all of his clothes off except for his cowboy boots.
