What's the deal with save on crafts?

antsy, on September 20, 2011 at 2:26 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 21

Have any of you bought anything on www.save-on-crafts.com? I got really excited browsing around because the prices are reasonable, but when I finally committed to buying something the shipping came out to more than what I was buying. Is this a site for only bulk purchases? I guess that would explain the prices.

I tried to buy some things from save on crafts, they are awful!!!! Thank goodness I paid with my paypal acct and got my money back!!! The order never showed up in the mail, whenever I called customer service it was ALWAYS the "overflow" call center and they could never get a hold of anyone in the real call center to see where my package was... I do not recommend these people at all!!!!

We ordered some vases form them. Yup, high shipping. Try a dollar store maybe? Or go to a store?

Wow - I was planning to order from there as well. Thank you all so much for posting this!

I am sad now, I was going to order plain tote bags, battery operated tea lights and probably a few other things...

Yeah, I'm really sad b/c there were a few vases that I can't seem to find anywhere else. Oh well...I don't love them THAT much.

@Jaymie - Glad you got your money back!

I've purchased from them.. non wedding related, and had a just fine experience. I do plan on buying some things for them for wedding decorations. I received my items just fine, and never had to deal with their customer service.

I can't say what happened with the shipping.. it might depend on where you're located or what you ordered. It's probably cheaper to ship an order of ribbon and balloons, than it is for a set of brass bird cages.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, ladies. Good news though, for the battery operated tea lights I am getting mine from orientaltrading.com the tea lights flicker!!! They aren't white, but we are using them in the luminary bags, so no one will notice. I haven't heard anything bad about them. With vases, I went to the dollar store and michael's.

@antsy- me too! I use paypal now whenever I can because i know I can trust that site!

Try ebay - I was surprised to find a lot of wedding supplies (often in bulk) there.

I have made several purchases without any problems from them...The one thing I definetly can't stand is that the shipping is very pricey...but the products are reasonable and nice...they use UPS which makes the shipping vary throughout the year due to gas prices so the shipping fluctuates.. I love save-on-crafts! I've never had a problem with the site at all and they have some great items I can't find anywhere else. I'd use them again and again and plan on purchasing some things to create centerpieces soon. But, if you are looking for candles I would not order from save-on-crafts, try quickcandles.com I think their prices are pretty reasonable for bulk candles.

I've ordered from them without incident. The shipping wasn't super cheap but it wasn't so bad that I didn't order.

I've ordered ribbon, corsage pins (hundreds of them) and battery operated tealights and I'm sure other miscellaneous stuff. I haven't ordered anything large like a vase and maybe that makes a difference?

I also have never had to deal with their customer service so I can't speak to that.

I just checked Hobby Lobby's prices, and they are better. Isn't that crazy?

Plus with all the sale items and coupons they give out, I bet you can make it an even better deal!

Their prices for tote bags and tea lights were WAY better than Save-On.

    Ah Hobby Lobby

Ya, I was gonna get some things awhile back from them, then checked out the shipping and it was ridiculous, so that's just turned me off..I think it depends on what you are getting..like if it's dried flowers or anything like that, forget about it!

We got the candle holders and mirrors for our centerpieces from them, and they were wonderful. However, it is true that you often have to be buying a lot of stuff to make the shipping price worth it.

Ahhh makes sense. Everything that I wanted to get was heavy (like vases and cake stands) so explains why shipping would be so much more expensive.

I had a great experience with save-on-crafts. I think shipping was a little high, but it was definitely worth it. I got so much stuff from them that I could not find anywhere else, and at great prices. Everything came to my house and I wasn't missing anything. I did a huge DIY wedding so I was happy with the outcome from this website. Smiley smile

I was the Mother of the Bride years ago twice within a couple of years. I purchased a lot of my decorations for both Weddings. The merchandise was great! They had the "stuff" that I could not find no where, and believe me I shopped around. A wedding is once in a lifetime, so if you have to spend a little bit more on shipping, at least you'll be satisfied. I also do a lot of arrangements and I always check with Save On Crafts first! They are the BEST!!
