Sherry, on November 18, 2014 at 5:24 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 10

@Nicolletta started a post about the following - Sweetheart table, head table or King's table? What Do you prefer) Numerous people asked including myself what the Kings table was....does anyone have insight to what the difference is between the three?

^What Andi said. We personally chose to do a sweetheart table because we had a smaller, more intimate wedding and smaller bridal party. I liked having the time with just me and hubby at our own table to soak it all in together Smiley smile

A King's Table is a rectangular table with wedding party (and dates) OR bride and groom's family sitting all around the table. Like a Head Table but people sit all around (on all sides of the table). I'll try to post a seating example

Example of each which shows the difference

Head Table - (black tablecloth) - seating on one side

Kings/Harvest Table - (white tablecloth) - seating all around . In this example the b&g are seated at the head end of the table

The term "head table" typically refers to the old 90's style head tables - a long table at the front of the room, where the bride & groom and wedding part sit side by side. They are usually on display to whole room, sometimes raised on a platform. Usually significant others of the WP are not included.

A King's table / Harvest table (same thing) is still a long, rectangular table but it allows for more seats and better conversation as people are sitting along both sides, rather than one side, usually with the bride and groom at the head of that table. It is often placed in the centre of the room, with guest tables surrounding the table. Often significant others or other family members can be included since there are more seats.

The first pic is a head table, second pic is a King's / Harvest table.

Traditional head tables look so outdated to me now. I think King's tables are such a fresh, modern option!

I get it now....thank you! Thought for sure the sweetheart table but the kings table idea is pretty neat. Question...the kings tables look wider than a normal rectangular table, is it two together or a different sized table?

^^ Yes. I had a King's table and it was two rectangular tables put together. With linens and a tablescape of florals and candles down the middle though, you couldn't tell that there were two tables.

The second picture that has the blue table runner. What size of tables did you use? 6ft or 8 ft?
