What's the weirdest thing on your registry?

Miss Michal, on November 13, 2010 at 9:13 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 23

FH and I are in the middle of a text convo. We're trying to decide how totally inappropriate it would be to register for firearms. What's the most off the wall thing you've registered for?

Let's see... it all seems perfectly reasonable to ME, but I guess there are a few things that might seem odd to others. :p

Haha, probably this is the weirdest: Magic Rocks: Pirate Treasure Chest: http://www.amazon.com/Magic-Rocks-Pirate-Treasure-Chest/dp/B000H6FM9G/ref=wr_it_dp_o?ie=UTF8&coliid=IIBPCLM9PPXN3&colid=3QXE5JA5AEQNB We both loved these when we were kids! :p For some reason, no one got it for us.

We also have not yet received the Starship Enterprise bottle opener (http://www.thinkgeek.com/homeoffice/kitchen/bd88/) OR the Klingon Korkscrew! Sadness. :p

I think the Hello Kitty toaster might seem weird to a few people. Or the Hello Kitty Sandwich maker. Or the Hello Kitty waffle maker.

I prefer the Hello Kitty Poached Egg Maker. LOL!

I have to say, Miss Michal, registering for firearms is an interesting choice. :-)

Well, we're registering for other outdoor gear, so deer rifles aren't really THAT out of place...right?

Star: I own the Hello Kitty waffle maker. I used to have the toaster, but it got to the point where I honestly was afraid it was going to burn down the house. After a couple of years of basically working as a "bread warmer," it suddenly started reducing bagels to charcoal on the medium setting. (DS, who is a physicist, says that toasters often start going hot when they're starting to break, & that your better class of toaster is designed to burn itself out, but that the ones without fail-safes will actually start an electrical fire.) We had to bid it an emotional farewell. :p (No, seriously. See attached.) We did get a new toaster off our registry, which I LOVE--it does four slices at once and has an attachment for poaching eggs AND heating pre-cooked breakfast meats!

I have not ever owned the HK sandwich maker, but I have coveted it. I had the coffee maker for years, too, but, like the toaster, it was definitely not really designed to stand up to everyday use

Miss Michal: Not at all. I see it along the same lines as registering for the his 'n' hers water bottle running belts that we put on our list.

Excellent. I have Cabell vindication ;-) I told my Phil to register us for a gun safe while he's at it. There are also Wonder Woman and Empire Strikes Back lunchboxes on the registry, but I think semi-automatic rifles trump even those as the most unusual item.

I WANTED DS to register for a gun safe! He has a number of handguns because shooting is a long-time hobby of his, and we've already determined that once we have a child in the house, they WILL be kept under lock and key, disassembled or no, but gun safes are pretty expensive. I kept telling him we should just put it on the registry but he insisted that would be "weird." We'll probably end up buying one with our tax refund in a few months, because I want them secure.

Funny story: when my landlord, who's been my landlord for like six years now, heard that DS had guns in the house, he blinked, asked if they were stored securely, and then said, "I have to say, of all the tenants I've ever had, I would have guessed that Cabell was the LEAST likely to own guns." :p

We also have children with engineering little minds who probably wouldn't have much trouble putting a gun together, so I know what you mean. If they're in the house, they're locked up.

I asked FH if I could put condoms & lube on there and he said that wouldn't be appropriate. So the only slightly unusual things on ours are DVDs, twister & a snow shovel.

@Giggles - but deep down, they'll be wishing they had one, too. Seriously, what would you give to not have to hover over public toilets?

@Genevieve- LOL snow shovel, I think that's actually a very useful thing! We just bought two nice snow shovels, so that we are more prepared next time there is a blizzard in DC area. What area are you from?

@Jass: I'm from a lot of areas. Currently "home" resides in oklahoma. I'll be spending almost 10 days of this month there, and 7 days of next month (my FH has made comments regarding my travel schedule and missing me)!

We put alcohol, toilet paper and household cleaners on our wedding registry. We've been living together for almost 2 years...we really don't need anything!

Cabell, condolences on your HK toaster! I didn't realize that they could actually get dangerous when they wear out. o_o Didn't realize that they have a HK coffee maker too! Maybe I can talk FH into that one instead of the hideously expensive one he's insisting on registering for, lol.

I've said as long as I can remember that I'm going to register for an Easy-bake oven. It's all I ever wanted as a kid, but never got one. If someone actually buys it for me, it'll probably be my favorite present ever!
