Depending on how far the vendor has to travel, there is sometimes a travel fee attached. For instance, if the vendor has to travel an hour and a half to get to where you are, that’s 3 hours they can’t earn money from another job. If the fee is too high, consider someone more local or someone with lower fees.

I’m a PT massage therapist and this is why I didn’t travel to people’s homes. A one hour massage ended up costing me 3 hours of time between getting to the home, schlepping all my equipment and time setting up and then packing it all up and traveling home, not to mention the cost of gas.

The photographer is booked for the day regardless of the travel. If a MU Artist has to travel, she or he may not be able to book another job that day due to the travel time.

My MUA is the only vendor I have that is charging a travel fee. She is about 45 minutes away from my venue too. But her travel fee is much less than yours. I'm being charged$46.50 for travel/mileage. I would keep looking or negotiate or question a$225 travel fee.

All of my vendors had a travel fee because we were "out in the country" in Hawaii, but just $50 each. Are they possibly mistakenly charging the travel fee per person?

We were able to find vendors from nearby cities that didn't have travel fees. all of our vendors are traveling about 45 minutes to the town we are getting married in. Some vendors had them but there are also a lot that don't so possibly look for more local vendors!

My MUA is charging $90 for her round trip travel fee. She is 45 miles away, so $1 per mile driven, there and back.

That seems like a high fee but I wonder if the 45 minutes x 2 (plus the time to load and unload his/her car with the supplies needed on both ends) precludes this person from taking another job on the day of your wedding? I'd try to find someone closer if I were in your shoes!

I think I paid $200 for travel fees for my HMUA. It’s not uncommon, and I don’t think it’s out of line—I think it’s the kind of thing that varies by region. I also paid travel fees for my musician, I think photographer, and a delivery fee for my cake and flowers. It’s a service, so they charge. I could have gone to the salon, but to me it was worth it to not have to run around, so that’s the equation—is it worth that to you? And really when you think of time and gas and having to schlep everything, it’s somewhat understandable. I think those who only do on site weddings HMU build that into their fees, whereas others don’t.

Sounds like it’s going to be a lot of work for her to bring all of her stuff to you, so I would guess that’s why there is such a higg fee.. Most of the time when people include travel fees, that’s just what it cost them, whether in actual fuel, mileage on their vehicle, or just plain time. I expect people to pay travel to use when they are coming a distance so I don’t have to go to them, so While it seems rather high, I completely understand why they do it.

To me that seems really high. My MUA charges $30 for 50 miles, but she also does this as side work.

That seems a little steep for a travel charge. My HMUA charges 50¢ a mile for travel, which put our travel charge at $37 for 74 miles round trip as we are outside of her no-charge travel zone. This was typical for other artists in my area. I could see a travel charge of $225 if they are super far from your venue, like a several hour drive each way, but not that much if they are relatively close. You may want to look into other HMUA or ask her what the travel charge consists of so you know what you’re paying for.

Yikes! That seems high. Mine was $60 for her travel fees (can’t remember if her drive was 30 or 60 min each way).

Yeah, that's high, but I imagine she charges that because she's in high demand and can charge it. She's probably really good and that's why you want to hire her, yeah? I mean, there's a reason an upscale salon charges more than Super Cuts, too.

It’s true is is good she did my makeup at the MAC store that she works at once and loved how she did it so I asked her to do my bridal makeup but wasn’t expecting a travel fee of that extent on top of makeup fee but she is good.
