I'm in a mood to discuss venues today, and I'd love to hear about the venue you chose or the types of venues you're looking at! Do you have your heart set on a beautiful rustic barn with string lights? Or an elegant ballroom with uplighting in your wedding colors? A unique historical venue or a location meaningful to your relationship? A romantic setting among tall trees? Or a sunny beachside altar decorated with bright colors? Let's hear about what style you are going with for your venue, and share a photo or two of your favorite venues!
Wow, I’m not much of a beach wedding person, but that first set up is amazing!! 🤩
Our “first wedding” 🤦🏼♀️ was a dark moody venue in New Orleans.
Since that didn’t end in a legal marriage, we are going to elope with a complete opposite aesthetic. We are going to City Hall in Chicago and having a daytime ceremony- bright, light, city vibes this time!

That beach setup definitely caught my eye too!! I especially love the way they setup the aisle, and that it's *right* on the water. Quite a stage too, I like that all their guests can see what's going on, regardless of where they're sitting. Though with all those gorgeous flowers lining the aisle, I don't envy their florist fees!
You come up with some of the coolest ideas! Your New Orleans venue looks like it had some incredible spaces for weddings, and I love the idea of doing a city hall ceremony in Chicago! Are you hiring a photographer for your elopement?

We are! Originally we were planning on doing a Vegas wedding. Instead, we are going to use all that money we’ll be saving to splurge on photography and entertainment. And if I’m being completely honest, I’m more excited for the elopement than I was for the NOLA wedding! The main excitement for NOLA was that our friends from over seas were coming back to the US for the first time since they moved 6 years ago! Our friend group was really tight and New Orleans was our fave place in the US, so I was completely giddy! But it wasn’t about the wedding itself- it was just about the company and the amazing location. I hate saying this, but the wedding kinda felt like this time consuming chore we had to do that was taking time away from doing things in the Quarter. The elopement, however, is going to be all about us! We aren’t taking anyone with us, so that we can have that sweet, romantic wedding experience ❤️
We're going for a lakefront restaurant with large fireplaces (one of which we will get married in front off). The restaurant has high ceilings, exposed beams and kind of a "lodge" vibe. My original plan was something more clean and modern, but both the restaurant and the location are special to us and they have a great (and affordable) wedding package. I'm planning to include some modern touches so it doesn't end up feeling too rustic.
My style is totally tall buildings with breathtaking views. Totally fits into the Godzilla theme for us considering those are what the monsters always end up knocking down lol. Other venues I like are event centers, community centers, and hotels with conference rooms and whatnot since many of them are "blank canvases" some people don't like them because they think they are boring, but I on the other hand like them because I can be creative as I want and sometimes the boring venues tend to be less expensive.
All the venues we’re looking at lean rustic elegant. The top place is a hotel by a waterfall in PA. The other few are inns or b&bs with small spaces suited for our micro wedding, where we can have at least our ceremony outside by the water. I really wanted that certain vibe but I also set strict requirements that catering and lodging needed to be offered onsite, just to make less work for myself
We ended up getting a rustic artsy building. There are high ceilings with big modern light fixtures, rustic walls, colorful painted walls, a large built in wood bar, and a garage door that opens the space up to the outside. We are really excited about it!

That sounds like an epic plan!! I hope you'll post photos afterwards, I'd love to hear how it all turns out! I love that you're keeping it just you two, and splurging on the things that you both want to do. Even though the NOLA wedding didn't result in a legal marriage, it's awesome that you got to bring everyone together and spend time with your favorite people!

I love the lodge vibe! Fireplaces make for a beautiful scene to get married in front of. Even better that the location is meaningful to your relationship! Is this a restaurant you often go to for date nights?

Ooh, the tall buildings definitely fit into your theme! I totally agree - blank slate venues offer a lot of room for creativity and transforming the space into exactly what you're looking for! I don't think they're for everyone (I'm not very creative with decorating, so I would have struggled with a blank slate venue), but for those who have a good eye, they are perfect! Do you have any inspiration photos of what you're looking for or what venues you're currently looking at?

The waterfall would make for some gorgeous wedding photos! I don't blame you for wanting catering and lodging to be onsite - that would take away a lot of planning stress! Do you have a photo of what the venue near the waterfall looks like? Can you see the waterfall from the hotel?

It’s been a wild ride! Lol But I’m kind of selfishly happy we get multiple celebrations 😂 I’ll definitely post some photos when we get them back!

That building sounds so cool!! Do you have a photo of what it looks like? Do you plan to add any decor to it (other than like centerpieces and such), or are you leaving it as-is?
Here is the main room. There is also a separate bar space and another room where the food will be served. I think the space looks good and has great wood tables, but I am definitely going to get creative with decorations to really make the place look great. I am pretty sure I'll be getting a white bounce house for outside the garage door too. Hehe...
When we were looking for venues, my husband and I both wanted a woodsy vibe (but not too rustic)! We found one online that we liked, and when we saw it in person, we knew it was the perfect venue for us! The ceremony space was outdoors among tall trees, with the lake in the background. The reception space was indoor/outdoor, with lots of open space surrounded by trees as well as an indoor/outdoor fire pit. The indoor space had beautiful chiavari chairs and wood accents on the walls, and a tall ceiling with wood beams. The space did not need much decor to dress it up! We ended up putting a light curtain hanging across the beams, and covered the chandeliers in greenery and ivory draping. Here is a photo of the outdoor ceremony space at our venue:

Oh wow, such a unique space! The light fixtures are fun too. The bounce house is a great idea, especially if you have kids attending your wedding! And of course, I'm sure your photographer will get some fun photos of you guys in the bounce house too, lol! What are you thinking for decor?

Oh I love you wedding space! It looks so perfect with the trees, water, and perfect weather. I love it! I have some basic ideas for our decor. But I won't figure out most of it until I lock down some bigger details.
