What's Your Venue Style?

There's one venue I'm eyeing up in a state park that I feel would be perfect - I'm just waiting for them to get back to me with availability and to set up a tour! They rent out the space in 3 or 4 night blocks so we could stay in a big cabin with 30 of our guests for a few nights which would be amazing since everyone is from out of state. I want a high ceiling, and an open airy venue that's either Scandinavian style or a historic, but elegant look.

We actually ended up booking that venue so I'll share some pics. Our ceremony will be right in front of the waterfall and we can take pictures right out by it, which I'm very much looking forward to. Our suite for the night before and after the wedding will also have a view of the falls.

This is where we had our wedding almost 38 years ago. The main building was, left, is a 200 year old Dutch home. It is absolutely gorgeous here and the food was fantastic. We often celebrate our wedding anniversaries here and other occasions: Sunday brunch, birthdays and other special occasions our son's marriage. On our 25th anniversary, he and his bride were married 1 month. We came here before his deployment with his Marine Corps unit to Afghanistan had a celebration. This June, my husband and I are having a Catholic "convalidation" ceremony with dinner afterward. Sadly, this restaurant closed just after our 36th anniversary (we celebrated here), otherwise we'd have our wedding dinner here. But, our wedding dinner will be at another elegant nearby restaurant, and hosted by our Matron of Honor and her husband who are dear friends. We've been here many times as well and the food is also fabulous and the owner knows us so it will be special I'm sure. But this is our wedding venue style: classic antique elegance. PS: This venue was not only lovely for weddings but many notables have dined here. A few years in a row, for our anniversary dinner, we sat at a table, in a corner of one of the dining rooms, once occupied by President and Mrs. George H. W. Bush. There's a plaque and photo next to the table.

What a beautiful spot!! I would have loved an outdoor reception but with our luck, it would rain. Turns out it was a beautiful day, but the night before, we had the thunderstorm from hell!! If we had gone smaller for the wedding, we would have had the ceremony at one of the sweet rustic churches near a lake in NH where we loved to vacation, and the reception in a pine grove, with a view much like this one! in front of the rustic lodge (cozy wood cabins, stone fireplaces, cute lil kitchen, all with a wooded view of the lake from all their front porches) where we used to stay, right on the lake. A gorgeous spot where we would have had our upcoming "honeymoon". The cabins are no longer there so we're planning to stay at somewhere, a little less rustic, as we are 38 years older now, LOL! but nearby the same lake.

Thanks! Yes, the restaurant is now our go-to for for very special occasions. This will probably be our table in June, it's in a cozy alcove off the main dining room, and we'll have it set up with more of a wedding decor, and a separate nearby table with the cake.

We didn't really have a specific type in mind when we started looking (back in 2021), but we ended up going with a boutique hotel that has really lovely Spanish-inspired architecture and a lot of really cute areas and nooks inside the hotel. Our ceremony and reception are indoors in ballroom areas, but the around the hotel is so wonderful!
