What’s your wedding dress budget?

Just started my dress search and visited a shop this past weekend where I tried on some dresses and the dresses I liked fell into the $2500-$3000 range. I don’t necessarily have a budget, but I’m kind of uneasy about purchasing a dress I will only wear once. But again, I don’t want to limit myself...
Just started my dress search and visited a shop this past weekend where I tried on some dresses and the dresses I liked fell into the $2500-$3000 range. I don’t necessarily have a budget, but I’m kind of uneasy about purchasing a dress I will only wear once. But again, I don’t want to limit myself too. But I do think I should set a budget. So I just wanted to get an idea what everyone else’s budget is and which designer did go with? The dresses I liked were either Pronovias or Sottero & Midgley.

TIA!

Well, I didn't really have a budget, but I know the style of gown I was looking for and that looks good on me, and also the typical price range of such a thing. I was expecting to spend no more than $700, and lucked out when I went to a sample sale on a whim and found THE dress for only $199, with only minimal alterations needed! Smiley laugh

I set a budget of $1000. Ended up finding a discontinued dress for $499. Paid a little over $850 after adding a belt and alterations.

My budget was $800 max, however that was before looking at dresses. I ended up with a gorgeous $1100 Moro Lee dress with a $145 rose gold belt, and a $100 rose gold/pearl headband. My stepmother graciously bought my dress, belt, and veil, and my mother in law bought my headpiece. Have not had alterations yet, which i will be paying for myself.

My dress is not something I wanted to spend a ton on! I have a $1200 budget including alterations. I found the perfect solution, although I'm doing something a little different. There are tons of sites though with consigned dresses that are lightly used that also fell within my budget. It's just not something that is important enough to me to spend over $1500 on.. but that's just me! My final outfit is a two piece and both of the pieces I can wear again!

Oh my gosh, this is absolutely personal. You can see from all the responses here. My dress was important but personally it was more about finding something unique to me and flattering to boot. For one day, I would wear something special but I am also the kind of person that likes simple but flowy. I have also overcome serious health problems and lost 160 lbs. Having more to choose from since I was a size 28/3o to begin with was mind-blowing but I couldn't see going over $500 when there are so many styles for that price anyhow. David's did it for me years ago and now again with a dress that was marked that price (around 500) however, the dress is very popular and been around a long time. I found it used but cleaned and stored on a preserve box. I got it and it's even altered almost perfectly. She sent literally everything but the shoes (veil, under slip, low back corset, etc). Paid $90 plus 30 for ship. I have it and tried it. It's perfect in all honesty. Needs a nip here and there but already altered with corset back so no biggie and will need a touch up steam. She kept it really perfect. Again, that's really personal with priorities, budget, personal style and taste, etc. I think if it's important for that one day for a bride (and groom really. We know what our men would like to see-mine is simple and classic and the choice reflected how he would see me) then you should do what you want to make it special.

Your dress is stunning! I didn’t want a train either but my dress has one that’s a little smaller than yours. The lady at the store said they will add something to pin it up for me since my FH is a dancer and dancing is a big must otherwise I would have gotten a tea length. Is the color of your dress called diamond oyster? It looks very similar to the color I chose. I agree about not caring about the designer. The designer isn’t what gives you the oh my gosh I look so beautiful and feel like a princess feeling.

My budget originally was $1300 (my mom paid for my dress so chose how much she was willing to pay) and this included veil and everything. I also felt weird about having her pay so much for a dress I was only going to wear once. My dress ended up costing $999.99 with tax Smiley laugh you find really great stuff out there !

Did your dress arrive? Did it look just like the picture ? My bridesmaids are ordering their dresses off of that website and I’m a little scared !

Thank you Rebecca!!! The lady who was helping us had it pinned and quite well since the dress was very very big on me. But we were looking for a form fitting dress and one with an open back. I’m a fitness junkie and I love to lift weights so I have a lot of definition in my back that we wanted to show off. I’m specially proud of the overall look of the dress. It looks like it has strings of pearls all over it. Pearls are one of my favorite gemstones and I’m planning on wearing a single pearl pendant given to me by my grandmother who got it as her sweet 16 birthday gift. So the necklace is my something old. But your dress sounds amazing!!! I totally want to see photos. And you should have whatever accessories you want. It’s your big day! I opted not to go for a veil and belt because my FH loves loves my crazy curls so I’ll probably wear my hair down and maybe off to the side with a fancy hair comb. It’s your special day make it as unique as you are!

That's awesome! I LOVE the Maggie sottero Patricia and Melanie dresses, but want to stick to a budget of $500 for my whole outfit after alterations. I've tried some thrift stores, eBay, secondhandweddingdresses.com... now I'm considering a custom dress (that looks kinda similar to the MS Patricia) that's sold by an independent seamstress through Amazon for under $200. The wedding is in June. Where did you end up finding your dress?

I actually found it on craigslist from a local woman so I was able to try it on. I am so happy and feel so lucky to have found it. It's perfect! And it came with 2 veils, one of which has matching beading. Here's a few pictures.

I didn’t have a budget due to the fact that my brothers were paying for my dress. I said I didn’t want to go over $1200, but I went shopping yesterday and found the dress of my dreams after tax and discounts it came to $1500 so not too much over. I know I’ll need alterations because I’m still losing weight. But I am so in love with my dress!!

I didn’t want to go over $1200 but I fell in love with a dress that was $1700. Fortunately the boutique I went to was able to give me a discount and I got it for $1500. Alterations will be about $500. So $2000 total.
