When Am i considered married?

Sheila, on July 6, 2019 at 5:12 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 1 13
I’m a little confused. When do I can called myself “married”? When my officiant performs the ceremony? Or when I get my marriage license? Can someone explain what are the steps? Can I choose to be married the day the officiant performs the ceremony? I want to know when is my official marriage day or when I celebrate my anniversary.

When the officiant performs your ceremony. Then you are married!

Ok but what exactly would be the marriage license? When we get the marriage license let’s say a month before, we are not legally married right? The license is a permit to get married then right? Sorry that I ask like that is just that even googling this information is confusing or I don’t get the answers❤️

The license just allows you to get married.

People confuse the marriage license and the marriage certificate. Here's how it goes:

    1. You get the marriage license. That permits you to be married.

    2. You have the ceremony. At that point, you are married. Even if you dropped dead the moment after the ceremony, and before you got the marriage certificate, you would be considered to have been married for purposes of his being your heir.

    3. You get the marriage certificate. That enables you to prove you are married (for things like changing your name, if you choose to do that).

Typically the officiant has to sign the paperwork for the marriage licence so your officially married when he or she says you are and legally married when you all sign it moments later.

😂 I have had the same questions! Our anniversary is June 4th and luckily we were able to set our wedding date as April 4th. So we will at least be able to celebrate our wedding anniversary on the 4th and keep the same date but I thought to myself “can we just put june 4th on the marriage certificate so we can keep our exact anniversary date” lol. We have been together for 13years so im reluctant to give up our date but I cant complain because the 4th will still always be ours
