When did a KitchenAid become a "wedding gift standard"?

I was just curious because as a person who cooks, I never use mine. For years I had an original 1960's KitchenAid stand mixer. It was black and white and it worked but I never used it. Last month, my aunt moved and she gave me her brand new white KitchenAid with all the attachments and everything....

For years I had an original 1960's KitchenAid stand mixer. It was black and white and it worked but I never used it. Last month, my aunt moved and she gave me her brand new white KitchenAid with all the attachments and everything. She never used it so I said I would take it. It's a large machine that I really do not think I will use. If anything, I might use the dough hook to make bread. Why are these such popular wedding gift items? For those who have one, do you use it?

I LOVE to bake and always just use my crappy hand mixer. The dang kitchenaid is so heavy and I have no counter space to leave it out! Not in this house at least...

I love mine! I love to cook and bake so it stays on my counter because I use it all the time.

It's probably popular because people want you wives to start cooking and baking more for your hubbys and family lol.

I'm envious of everyone that got one. It was the one thing I really wanted, but didn't get. But, I'm asking for one for Christmas! I usually bake something on the weekends. I could have used one three times this past weekend, so I'm sure I will use it several times a month. My new thing is making bread and when I get the mixer, I definitely want to start making pasta.

I guess I never thought about shredding chicken in it...hum...I mean I know once I move in with FH and the house we are buying has the biggest kitchen ever I will probably use it. I am just so used to mixing by hand. I have my Cuisinart food processor out on the counter at all times. I made salad dressing with it last night. FH had never seen one before and FMIL actually asked what it was - no joke. During the holidays it is invaluable for making breadcrumbs for stuffing, mushing up cranberries for sauce, gravy, relish, you name it. I do foresee us making pizza dough often so I am sure it will come in really handy.

My FMIL gave me her old KitchenAid mixer a few years ago, and I absolutely love it! My family knew that she has been demanding to have it back (even though she GAVE it to me and FH), so a few members of my family went in and got me a LIME GREEN (one of my favorite colors!) one for my bridal shower!

I am the baker in the family, so I make all the desserts for our family functions and holidays. I also use it to help shred chicken for casseroles, etc. There are so many uses for this thing besides baking, but I know a lot of people aren't aware of the other uses.

I use mine all the time. In fact, I registered for an extra bowl and was thrilled when it showed up in the mail this week. I use the dough hook to make bread, I use the grinding attachments to make cole slaw, slice and shred cheese, shred carrots, I use the sausage attachment to make sausage. You get the idea. I use mine probably 3-4 times a week and I travel every week for work. But,mid you don't like to cook, the. It might not be for you. I wanted one for years and years and FH gave it to me for my 50th birthday. Guess he figures I was getting too old to use my arms Smiley smile. Actually, he's thrilled because he's had built in present ideas for every attachment I've needed.

I use it as a mixer a lot. I think one of the really great thing about it is that it has attachments that you can get. If you are a person concerned about your health and what food you put into your body, it makes sense to have. You can get the grain mill and grind flours that are low/no gluten. You can buy meats and grind them yourself instead of guessing what is in them, a la the mystery meat scandal that happened not so long ago. The strainer attachment is what I used to make baby food. I still use it to make applesauce. If I put applesauce from a jar in front of my family, they look at me like I lost my mind. Since it only take a few minutes to make it fresh, I do it. I also know there is no preservatives added to it. If you have one, try different things with it. You will be surprised. Also, it is a heavy machine, but that means it isn't going to move. My Nana would make fruit cake and she would have to hold the machine down at times since it would rock and almost start walking as she used it. Her life would have been easier with a Kitchen Aid.

As my avatar says, I am "domestically disabled". I live up to that title! However, I do have a KitchenAid, and other than the microwave and dishwasher, it's my most used kitchen item. Granted "most used" means less than once a month, but I do use it when I make cupcakes or cookies. In fact, I'd love to get an extra bowl so it doesn't need to be washed in between batter and frosting.

I have a lot of friends that cherish theres...they are more bakers though or even canners than me. I on the other hand don't know the last time I have used a mixer...and I don't make dough...etc so I think my friends that know me as a cooking foodie type will be surprised to not see it on my registry.

Due to allergies we have to cook pretty much everything from scratch, and I love baking. It makes it a lot easier and much more affordable for us to have bread and pasta around the house thanks to the mixer. It was the first thing we registered for, and until the wedding/shower when we hopefully receive it we'll just keep borrowing my FMIL's when we need it.

I got one for the holidays last year and use mine multiple times a week. They are great if you know you will use it. I used my mothers constantly growing up so when I moved out, I wanted my own.

I bake a lot though and love to do so. Mine gets put to use.

I use mine all the time! I make a lot of cakes, and I make my homemade butter-cream frosting in it also! I also found a recipe for the "Texas roadhouse" rolls that I use it for, and I LOVE! And I make the homemade cinnamon butter too! For me, that would be the BEST gift EVER, if I didn't already have one, lol. Hell I would even appreciate a bigger one, and a bigger Keurig! I mean I LOVE my Keurig, but I have to feel up the tank every other day.
