When did you know you had found “the dress”?

JaineyBride, on September 20, 2019 at 10:45 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17
I went dress shopping for the first time today and I fell in love with the third dress I put on. I was the first one that had caught my eye on the hanger but you can tell so little about a dress when it is on the hanger. I put it on and it felt right, I really liked it but wasn’t “in love” with it. My consultant then added a belt and I started to think that this was it, and then I saw a fur stole hanging on the wall. I added it to the ensemble and I just knew I had found MY dress.

How did did you find yours? A what point did you realize you had found it?

It was the second dress I tried on. I only put it on because my niece/MOH loved it so much, from the moment she saw it. I'd seen it on the David's site and thought it was blah. I was wrong. When I put it out it felt great, I like how I looked, and when I walked out my niece gasped. I knew then

I found my dress on Pinterest before I even tried it on. But, once I put it on and didn't want to take it off and felt more beautiful and confident than I ever had in my life, I knew it was my dress.

I only had 2 options and they weren't at all what I wanted. I loved my first option, but didn't actually pick it out since my mom and aunt shamed me with it on... They were rooting for the second dress which was the one I went with. I still didn't feel it, but when I went for the fitting I couldn't help but feel nostagic and my eyes watered. I shared it and got good compliments, which made me a bit more secure about the choice. Maybe it is the dress after all, but I just haven't given myself that alone time with the dress. I'm hoping I feel it on the last fitting!!

I also fell in love with the 3rd dress. I tried it on and felt like a princess. Exactly what I wanted. My consultant knew what I was looking for without asking. When my mom started crying, I knew it was the one.

I knew I found “the one” when the first time it fot correctly, and I saw myself in the mirror..for the first time since I was 8 years old, I..I didn’t hate myself. There wasn’t a thing in that mirror that my eyes landed on that made me want to hide. And I didn’t cry then but I’m tearing up just remembering. Being overweight and constantly being told by male friends, your mother, your girl friends “oh if you lost a lil weight you’d be so pretty” or “you have such a pretty face” as the only way they can compliment your body. But in my dress, I was just..pretty. And that’s all I’ve ever wanted. And..full on crying mode now oops!

I found my dress on Kleinfeld’s website. I called a local shop who carried the same designer and they ordered the sample for me to try on. They also pulled a bunch of other dresses for me, based on my style profile. I went in and tried on the dress I had ordered first. It was love at first site. I didn’t even bother trying the other dresses on.

It was the first dress I tried on, which my sister actually picked out off the rack.

We grabbed about 6-8 dresses for my first round of try-ons. Mind you, this was my first bridal shop appointment and I planned on going to at least one other shop -- I had 0 intentions of buying anything.

The stylist arranged them in the dressing room and I just grabbed the first one and put it on and was like... 'wow, this is really pretty and actually looks good?' I was super excited to walk out in it and my family loved it, and I didn't really want to take it off, but I had a bunch of other dresses to try on.

So I did. And as soon as I put each one on, I wanted to take it off and just get back in the original. When I was done with those, the original plan was for the consultant to then go pull some for me, but she just told me to get back into the first dress. We all knew it was the one. Smiley heart

I thought I had found the dress at David bridal. I went to the appointment alone. I cried when it was on once they added the veil. I didn't hate myself in it..i just felt pretty. My FH asked if I cried because of the dress or because I was marrying him and it was the first time I had a veil on. He knows me so well.. That dress would have been uncomfortable and that's just not something for me.

My mom and I went to MB Bride about a month later to look. I ended up really liking FOUR dresses. The first one I tried on I remember thinking it might be it and I could jsut stop there. I should have stopped there. I was honestly confused by liking dresses on me. They were all beautiful..they all looked nice..i didn't know. Then when I found out that they might not be able to get any of them (except this fabulous as is discounted Maggie sottero) in time I immediately thought of the first dress I tried on. I thought crap that's the one I won't be able to get. In the store I was confused but my mom and the woman from MB Bride helped me. We all liked the dress I ended up with the best. Hopefully it gets in in time!

I went with my mom the first two times looking for a dress, don't get me wrong I love my mom, but she was going against my wishes on what I wanted. I wanted something with long sleeved with lace and ivory. She somehow managed to talk me into a dress that was gorgeous but I felt pressured to say yes, so i did. Well as I went back home and pondered some more, i wasn't getting that feeling of that was the one. So when i went back to the bridal shoppe, to make a payment on the dress(the shoppe offered payment plans) I asked if i could look at all the dresses I did that day and really loved one of them but not in my size so we couldn't tell exactly. Well this last time i took my soon to be mother in law, she always kept telling me my arms looked great so i don't need long sleeves but she wanted me to be happy. My mom wants me happy to but my mom unfortunately lacks some style. So i tried on the one i really liked but wasn't entirely sure and this time around I knew it was the one. I felt so happy and wanted to try it on asap. I'm going today to try the dress on since i haven't been in this dress since early april. So i knew that this was the one because I was excited to see it again.

I originally found mine on BHLDN website but when we went to try it on they were having a trunk show and weren’t taking appointments so we went to nordstrom’s across the street and i tried on probably upwards of 10 dresses and all i could think about was the one i found online and i knew i had to try it on. i called BHLDN and they were closing in 5 minutes so they said i could go and try on the one dress so we sprinted there and they had the dress waiting, i put it on and i sobbed! getting married in 28 days and couldn’t be more excited!!

I knew it was my dress when it was the only one I didn’t wanna take off and it just felt like home. It was also the only one to make everyone that was with me cry!

I went dress shopping with my 4 year old son. He picked out every dress I tried on and quickly vetoed the first 4. Dress number 5 tho, he told me was the one that was going to make daddy cry. And that’s how I found my dress, with the help of my 4 year old. And I must say, he chose perfectly! I absolutely love my dress!

I fell in love with the first dress at the second shop but wanted to give others a try since it wasn't what I expected I wanted. I wanted lace sleeves but MAN they are itchy! So it was down to three. A princess strapless, a halter top simple gown and my 2 finger strap organza beaded and laced non itchy a line. I decided after trying them all on again that the princess strapless was too princess for me and my wedding style, would need the most alterations and that there are so many strapless dresses, I didnt want to be like many other brides. The simple halter top WITH POCKETS I loved but realized the pockets aren't practicle and I'm not that simple in personality. It looked like a flower girl dress to me (and was the 3rd fav). Then mine I chose because it had a little of everything and I love variety. Some sexy, simple, beaded and lace, not itchy not too poofy, and hit the likes my fiance said (like I know he hates speghetti strap wedding dresses). Also everyone that came with (including digital gma who's very opinionated) loved it too and his mom who was there cried so it all worked for me. I gave it a 10 and compared everything to it from the begining but was to nervous to love the first dress. I've never looked back Smiley heart

Being newly engaged I did a lot of online research and found myself liking a very particular type of style. There was a sample sale at a local shop a few weeks later. I couldn’t afford this shop at full price so this was my chance. I booked an appt and went in by myself. I wasn’t expecting to buy anything but just get an idea of what I want without pressure. Within 15 minutes the shopkeeper had armfuls of dresses picked out for me. The first one I tried was IT! I did of course try on the rest to get the “dress shopping experience” but I knew the first one was the THE ONE. I texted my sister and 2 close friends pictures and they responded “BUY IT IMMEDIATELY!” I left the same day with a dress I adore. A little sad I didn’t have any family or friends there to witness but also relieved to check it off my list.

I just knew. It fit my body perfectly and made me feel like a bride! All the dresses that I had tried were what I bought I wanted. They just didn’t work. My dress was a dress I never would have tried. It’s perfect!

I went to two bridal shops and saw ones that had different parts I liked, but not all together in one dress. I went to the third shop and found one before my appointment started that I loved! I tried it on first and my mom took pictures of it, which she dadnt done to any of the others. We spent so much time looking at every detail, the lace, the train, the beading... and when the consultant asked if I wanted to try on another dress, I was surprised! "Oh yeah. I should probably try on other dresses while I'm here!" In the end, I got the first one!

The very first dress I put on was my dress. I knew it was, but had that 'fear of missing out' syndrome.. So I tried on 4 more at that store, 5 at another and 3 at another... Then went back the same day and bought the first one. I had 4 people with me and they didn't even mind that we drove all over Indy to try on dresses, just to end up back where we started. When we went back to get it, I tried it on again and was 10p% sure that it was my dress. It's hanging in my closet now and I just need minor alterations to it.
