When did you start buying your decor items?

Rosie, on June 21, 2021 at 7:41 PM Posted in Style and Décor 1 10

Wedding Wiries! (Is there a name for us here?) When did you begin your decor item buying sprees? Before you chose a venue? After? A week before the wedding?

Were you one of those people who collected vintage jars from op-shops for years before your wedding day? Or maybe you were one of those people who were like, "nah. Flowers are enough. I like the venue how it is."

We're not really doing a great deal of decor other than the florals - which are going to be big floofy garlands on the tables, plus a floral piece on the fireplace mantle behind the bridal table.

We're not doing coloured napkins, chargers etc either.

The only other decor we have are these cute little rabbits which will sit on the table where the wishing well is, because I am a rabbit fiend:

    Those rabbits are adorable!

I guess I'm one of those people collecting well in advance of my wedding since I'm still waiting for a ring! I'm mostly just collecting free stuff right now. I know I want to incorporate decorated wine/liquor bottles into my centerpieces so I have a few people saving bottles for me and I've asked my boyfriend to cut me some wood slices when he takes a couple trees down later this summer. I'm waiting to be officially engaged/have a venue before really purchasing anything else. Though I'm not proud to admit I caved and purchased a ton of small blue flower bunches that went on final clearance a few weeks back!

Like you our décor is pretty much entirely florals as our venue (The Tea Room in QVB) is quite elaborate in itself, though had we needed actual items for décor, I would likely be looking to rent items rather than purchase them outright due to cost, storage, and the setup/pack down involved, though I probably would have done this the moment the venue was booked to ensure availability – I booked our florist almost immediately after booking our venue for this exact reason.

Oh lovely! I actually think it's a good idea to start early if you know what you want and it might take a while to collect! I'm a huge fan of organising early, as it reduces stress for me!

    Liquor/wine bottle centrepieces sounds fun!

I guess our 'guest book' could be considered decor - we're doing wines from our venue (it's a vineyard) for our 1st, 5th and 10th wedding anniversaries with metallic glass pens for people to write directly onto the bottles. Then, we'll have a bottle of scotch for our 25th anniversary!

Same! Plus I'm just trying to think of ways to save some money by DIYing a bunch of the decor and flowers since we know our wedding will be huge because we both have large, tight knit extended families.

This is my inspo picture, but I'd like to add one or two small candles to it and I have three design variations in mind for the bottle. It just needs a little more color for my taste!

I love that idea for a guestbook and how it ties in with the venue!

That is a beautiful venue and I agree, I don't think it will need much in the way of decorations past florals!

Those are so pretty. We wanted huge versions of your wood rounds for our bridal party to stand on so they didn't sink into the grass during the ceremony! We weren't able to get those, but did get some live-edge slices of tree that are cut down through the trunk, rather than across though, and our people will stand on those!

I started buying after booking the venue. I've so far bought 4 of these big ones and 2 of the small ones. I'm only gonna have 8 guest tables plus the sweetheart table. I'm going for this look.. mostly greenery, a few ivory flowers. I've also bought gold flatwear and ordered gold chargers. It'll be easier not having to worry about those things being rented and returned. When did you start buying your decor items? 5
