When do people RSVP?

I know I sent out my invites early- about 80% of the guests are out of town- but I'm starting to be concerned about the lack of RSVPs in the three weeks since I sent out my invites. I know I sent out my invites early- about 80% of the guests are out of town- but I'm starting to be concerned about the lack of RSVPs in the three weeks since I sent out my invites. I made it very easy and instantaneous with electronic RSVPing on my wedding website, but I've only gotten 11 RSVPs so far... and most of them are people in the wedding party.

Besides the obvious question of whether I went too crazy with electronic RSVPs (it's too late to change that now), I pose the question of when most people do RSVP... Do more people RSVP in the middle of the time between when they get their invites and when the response is due? Or do more wait until the last minute?

We sent our invitations 3 months early because we have out of state and out of country guests and although I sent STDs, they were still clamoring for invites. Only 6 people rsvped right away. A good number let me know either the week of the deadline or 2 weeks after the RSVP deadline when we reached out to them. We did phone and online RSVPs.

    ...they have until January though.

Which is ridiculous but you already did it.

Add me to Team "you sent them out too early". Ours is 95% OOT guests, who got sent an STD last February. The invites will go out first week of December with an RSVP By date of a month prior to the wedding.

You sent them out really early. I wouldn't expect any for awhile.

I will be sending my family invites out 3 months out only so I can use the declines to invite more friends 2 months out. No reason to send invites out 6 months early.

I'd be worried more about those who RSVP'd this early and cancel closer to the wedding or do not attend.

@Julie- do not invite more friends when you get declines. That is B listing your guests and is rude. Better to not invite at all than only invite at the last minute because space opened up. The only exception to this is to allow truly single guests a plus one if you then suddenly have enough room.

Sooooo, pretty much every guest we invited was OOT for our March wedding last year. They RSVP'd between the end of January when we sent our invitations out, and the RSVPs kept coming in up until a few days past our RSVP deadline (which was 3 weeks prior to our date). At first there was a heavy volume of RSVPs for about a week, then it backed off to 1-2 RSVPs every 2 days, and then it picked up a little right around the RSVP deadline.

You sent your invitations and requested RSVPs way too early. This has nothing to do with requesting online RSVPs. It has everything to do with jumping the gun on your invitations. If you had waited until January to send them out, your guests would be RSVPing because they'd have solidified their plans to come by then.
