When do the readings usually take place?

Bee, on March 26, 2013 at 9:13 PM Posted in Planning 0 12

I have them situated in the beginning of the ceremony. There is something about the ceremony I want to change, but I just cant put my finger on it! Anyone who could tell me how long my ceremony is probably going to be if I send it to them? Its typed in Word.

Outline:

PRecession- Groom, officiant and Bestman Enter. 3 bridesmaids. 1 flower girl. Bride and mom

Officiant greeting- Welcomes guests, about 4 sentences

Reading#1- Celtic saying. 3 sentences

Reading#2- longer poem- about 2-3 minutes

Officiant Reflection about couple- 5 minutes????

Declaration of Intent- Do you take __ to be your husband/wife & care for them (etc) as long as you both shall live? (one sentence question for each of us)

VOWS- 4 questions each, answered with "I do"

Blessing of Rings- 4 sentence reflection on symbolism of rings

Exchange of rings- 1 sentence each

Pronouncement- 2 sentences

KISS

How long do you think this is?I think it might be too short, I want 30-40 min. Ideas on how to make this more personal/sweet

I would maybe switch the officiant reflection and the readings. That's the only thing I would maybe change. I found this ceremony script and liked it, maybe it can give you some more ideas about wording and flow?

@ Bee who is yours, if you don't mind me asking? We had a very non-responsive one.

You could add a sand ceremony and/or a wine ceremony or a rose ceremony.

Why don't you consider having a singer/performer? They could easily play during communion, before readings, after readings, even during your procession. Keep in mind, that most of the time, things will not go "exactly" as you planned them. It's good to have an outline, but things always take a little longer than you will probably anticipate. They will probably start late as well.

On another note... I think 40 minutes might be too long.

I place the readings depending on what they are about. Some may fit better at the beginning, before or after the vows, before or after the ring exchange, or before the pronouncement.

Read the ceremony out loud while you time it. Anything that you're repeating after the officiant -- read it twice. Allow a few seconds for fumbling with the rings, passing your flowers to MOH, etc.
