When do you begin looking for a hair & makeup person?

Jyl, on October 29, 2019 at 2:30 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 11
I have heard so many people give their feedback to me as to when a good time to do all my wedding tasks! It’s been a bit confusing to say the least lol I was wondering when a good time to start looking for a hair and makeup person is and when they should be booked! Please help Smiley smile also if any of y’all are from Michigan, a hair and makeup vendor reference would be helpful too!

I'm unsure when is the right time to book a HMU, but I plan on doing it soon because I already have the dress & my shoes for the alterations appointment. I already ordered my bouquet and my wedding band is getting custom made now (he still needs to pick his).

I tried to book an appointment yesterday at the hotel salon we are staying in and they aren't accepting appointments past January, and our wedding is in February so I'll need to painstakingly wait as I want to cross this off my list of To Dos!

I booked mine about 6 months prior to my wedding. We were engaged for 11 months and I wanted to get all of the other vendors booked first and have my dress and bridesmaids dresses picked out before I picked a makeup artist and hair stylist. For my brother's wedding, the bride forgot about hair and makeup so I helped find someone do hair and makeup for us about 3 weeks prior to the wedding, but I definitely don't recommend waiting that long as it was very difficult to find someone and some of us ended up at one salon and others went to another. Most things online recommend booking them 9-12 months beforehand.

If you want someone to come to you to do it I would suggest a year out. I booked mine 10 or 11 months before and quite a few were already booked for my date.

I found a HAMU artist in my area and they're AMAZING. I just got an email with the thumbs up on my date and am in the process of booking. My wedding is 10/10/20.

I booked my HMUA at the end of May and will be getting married in February! I wanted to make sure my date got reserved due to the popularity of my date (Leap Day).

I booked my hair girl already this month and my wedding isn’t til September 2021. I love her work, and I wanted to make it a for sure thing that she did my hair for my wedding

I started looking 1 year out because I'm SUPER picky about hair & makeup so I wanted to try several before picking.
