When do you send invitations for a destination wedding?

Rachael, on February 16, 2009 at 9:22 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 14

My wedding date is in September. How far in advance do I send out invitations? I skipped the "save the date" cards.

I think you should send them asap that gives everyone a chance to make plans and book everything they need to for the trip..

You still have time for Save the date cards. I would recommend them because if you send your wedding invitations too early it is a good chance they will be misplaced or people will forget. People need to be notified ASAP in order to make the accomodations then reminded later about the date. If expense is something that is a factor for the save the date, they don't have to be anything fancy. In fact I know several people who made them and saved bunches.

Rachael send them out asap! I help couples with alot of destination weddings and getting the info out so that they can make deposit, that is if they are invited to attend the wedding. When I work with my groups we set up a site and invitations and get them all on board then start with group planning. If you need help let me know. You can call me anytime at 972-805-1773 or email me at *****@***************************.***

Well we are getting married on may 2nd and we sent save the date cards last september just to let people know we were planning on getting married in Jamaica and we sent the invitations in January. I feel that gave people enough time to take whatever time off and book their travel in time.

I think at least six months.

I had a small destination wedding in August '08. I didn't have STDs sent out but most of he people we were inviting already new about the destination wedding either via email or conversations. My official invitations went out Feb 08.

    Hope this helps!

Yes, destinations must be sent as soon as possible. Planning to leave the area/home is a concern at times, especially on short notice. As mentioned above, don't send the invitations yet, as they may be misplaced. If there is anything I can help you with please contact me at ***************@*******.*** or www.unbridleddesign.biz

    Rachael,

Wedding invitations are sent 6 to 8 weeks before a wedding. 10 weeks is more than enough for a destination wedding. More than that and you risk people getting the "oh, i have plenty of time to respond" and then they forget about it. Don't give them "too much" time but just enough to keep your special day in teh fore front of their mind.

    God Luck

Hi, I am also having a destination wedding, our wedding is on October 23, 2009 in Massachusetts and we live in Concord, NC. We sent out save-the-dates last month so that everyone can be aware ahead of time of when the wedding is and where it will be held at. More or less so they can start preparing themselves if they will be attending. I will be sending the invitations a long with hotel and airport information in April. This way they have 6 months for enough shopping around for airline tickets and so on.

    Hope this helped.

We sent out STDs a year before the wedding to allow time for people to plan. I would recommend sending something out, even if its just a postcard as a STD.

Our wedding is a destination wedding on April 18th. I sent out invites out the 2nd week in January (so roughly 12 weeks before the wedding) with an RSVP date of 7 weeks before the wedding...which will give me enough time to plan the last few things and wrangle in any RSVP stragglers

If your wedding is in September I would send an e-card save the date with all the information for accommodations. I would then send the invitations end of May first week of June. You can send e-mail save-the-dates from www.e-vite.com for free!

My wedding is April 2011. I sent out STD cards in April 2010 and will be sending out my invitations next month, which will give the guests 6 months to find airfare, book hotel, find babysitters, petsitters, etc. I am asking for all RSVPs back no later than 8 weeks before the wedding so I can wrangle up the non-responders and invite any last minute guests in case I need to fill the reception area (60 is our minimum head count number).

Save the date should be sent right away to allow your guest to better plan whether they are physical save the dates or evites, is up to you. I'd recommend to send out official invitations 2-3 months before your actually wedding date by then you'll have an accurate guest list. I have a destination wedding timeline, https://destify.com/destination-wedding-timeline hopefully it helps.
