Depending on your pre-proposal jewelry habits, adjusting to wearing an engagement ring can be a little tough! When do you take off your wedding ring? Do you take it off to sleep, workout, or cook?? Do you never take it off? Tell us your personal "ring rules"! Photo by Priscilla Thomas Photography in...

Has anyone else heard of the "S" rules? I tend to take my rings off to sleep, shower, swim, sweat (workout), scrub (clean), and saute (cook)! I thought it was a good tip from my jeweler in regards to swimming with your rings on that "you maybe shouldn't where your rings if you can't touch the bottom!" Smiley laugh

I take my ring off when I shower, wash dishes, put on lotion, if I am cooking with meat, and when I am going to the river or the beach! I purchased a Enso silicon ring in a super cute twist style. This allows me to still have the feeling of my ring, but gives more flexibility with what I can do while I am wearing it! It's super cute and comes in many colors!

I never take mine off, unless I'm cooking something and it's messy. I can't imagine taking it off!

I take mine off when I shower, sometimes when I was my hands, when I cook, laundry, when I do my hair, when I go to bed. Im just afraid of it getting knicked, something getting inside of it. fuzzies getting attached to it. all that.

I’m too scared to take mine off! I’ve heard too many stories of people losing theirs... and I have lost a fair share of jewelry in the past. Maybe one day I will start taking it off, but for now I leave it on 🙈

I never take it off and when I do I put it on my middle finger for working out and swimming. I'm going to get it sized then I probably will never take it off.

To be honest, I used to work in jewelry so I experienced first hand what not taking off your ring for certain activities can do. I learned to always take mine off when I'm doing something that could dirty or damage it, that could be mostly due to loving they way it looks when it's clean and sparkly. I take it off when showering/going to the bathroom because germs can get into the little crevices of diamonds and that's so gross! Plus, soap can cause such bad build up that you could loosen diamonds and the soap could end up being the only thing holding those in place. I keep a little ring holder near the sink so I don't worry about dropping it down the drain and I don't put it back on until my hands are completely dry. I take it off when cooking (i work with raw and fresh foods a lot so i don't need those germs and bacteria either!). Also, when i'm sleeping. This isn't as big of a deal, but I know i could hit it in my sleep or that it could be uncomfortable when I wake up (kind of like when you accidentally leave a hair tie on your arm over night and it feels really tight the next day). Lastly, I sometimes take it of for cleaning (depending on what is being cleaned, if I'm just doing laundry, nope, but if I have my hedgehogs out and I'm cleaning their cages, yep!), when I'm swimming (if i'm going out knowing I will be swimming, I usually leave it at home), and sometimes I just leave it at home all together when I'm going out depending on the activities. I could tell endless horror stories about customer rings and I think that makes me extra careful! I also take it in regularly to get it cleaned, mostly whenever i'm out and about around the store I got it from. That helps me make sure that it's not only bacteria free, but also helps me make sure my diamonds are safely in place. ALSO! It helps to keep the box it came in or get one to put it in because people ALWAYS get worried about losing it if they take it off. If you have a safe spot, you won't lose it. Smiley smile

I mostly take mine off when I shower, mess with raw meat or a super messy recipe, or when I’m in the pool

You guys are making me feel like I should be more careful with my ring, lol. Today, at work, it got stuck for a few seconds in the refrigeration shelf that holds the berries and things. I almost never take it off!

Kinda surprised how often people take theirs off! I only take mine off when I get a massage. I even wear it working it. Definitely to sleep and shower, cooking and dishes - I wear it all the time!

I take it off for bed and shower. I put on my silicone ring if I'm doing hard work.

I work around 70 hours a week as a Pastry Chef so I am rarely actually wearing my ring.

I wear mine at all times except for in the shower (unless it is a quick gym shower), putting on lotion, washing my truck, getting some type of medical procedure, or doing some serious cleaning. When it comes to this winter though I might have to put some string around my rings in order to keep them on my finger because of the cold with my job, but otherwise I won't take them off.

I pretty much follow the S rule all the time when I am home. If I am not at my house or out of town, I usually try to keep in on as much as possible. If I am just out and about or at a friends house, I will keep it on when I wash my hands, help cook, ect. Just not need to risk taking it off in a place other than my own home. When I am traveling, I will use the hotel safe if I am leaving it behind to swim (I WILL NOT RISK THAT) but keep it on otherwise. It is hard to take it off because am so afraid of losing it, but my jeweler assured me it is the best way to keep it in tip top shape. You can make diamonds loose, tarnish metals with chemicals, or actually warp the shape of your ring (yes even platinum) by putting different pressures on it or being abrasive with it. People keep telling me I will misplace it if I take it off, even at home, but if you make it a habit to be the first thing off when you get home, put it in a safe place you will always keep it, and then making it the last thing you put on when you leave, you won't have to worry about where you took it off. It takes a little bit of work, but you have to take care of your finer things. Rings are not indestructible.

I follow the "s" rules and also take it off when applying lotion to my hands throughout the day. I wouldn't dream of having it on when doing "s" things

I take mine off for all of that. Honestly I only wear it while at work in the office and if I go out. I have two kids, one that isn't walking yet so I am constantly needing me and I have scratched his legs with my ring trying to change his diaper, so when I get home I take it off first thing and keep it in a safe place and put it on right before I leave the house. I also got a necklace on etsy that I can slide the ring onto when I need my hands and want to take it off temporarily (hand washing), and I take it off and keep it in a slim ring case and keep it on me when I run (in a workout fanny pack).
