Depending on your pre-proposal jewelry habits, adjusting to wearing an engagement ring can be a little tough! When do you take off your wedding ring? Do you take it off to sleep, workout, or cook?? Has anyone else heard of the "S" rules? I tend to take my rings off to sleep, shower, swim, sweat (workout), scrub (clean), and saute (cook)! I thought it was a good tip from my jeweler in regards to swimming with your rings on that "you maybe shouldn't where your rings if you can't touch the bottom!" Smiley laugh

I take mine off when I shower, swim or if I go anywhere that I'm afraid I'll lose it. Like if I'm going to be doing a lot with my hands and it might get caught. I only take it off when I shower cause I run my hands through my hair, and they tend to get caught in my hair, haha.

Otherwise, I'm too afraid to lose it. It's my grandmothers, so its all that much more special to me.

I take mine off to wash my hands, shower, bathe or swim and at work (I'm a chef) but I string it onto my necklace then. I don't go fishing often but I do then as well because that's how an uncle of mine lost his finger, yikes!

I have a question why does every one take off their rings when they are sleeping? What is the reasoning for that? I mean I can understand some of the reasons why the rings are taken off on here because I do take mine off for some of the same reasons but I dont understand why.

I take my ring off when I wash dishes, cook/bake, and swim! My Future Father-in-law is a jeweler, who made my ring, so I know that he'll take care of my ring!

My ring still needs to be sized so I take it off in the shower, when doing the dishes and washing my hands. Once it's sized it'll be on for good.

I almost never take mine off. I used to a lot when I first got engaged and would forget to put it back one. Obviously, my fiance wasn't too happy about that so now it stays on.

I very rarely take mine off. Only times I have was when my finger was swollen and I'd have to wait until the swelling was gone before I put it back on or if I'm cooking something messy, like meatloaf, that I have to use my hands for. I believe the ring should stay on the finger once its placed there so when I've had to remove it, I couldn't get back on there fast enough. It's a sacred type thing for me.

I do when I shower, do the dishes, and use cleaning products. I also do if I swim. I don't take it off when I workout but I probably should!

The only time I've taken it off is pretty much when I'm asleep or showering. I even went fishing the first week I got it 😂...

    Hi Erin,

I sleep with mine on all the time I was wondering why people take theirs off to sleep I just understand why? It doesn't make sense to me. I mean nothing goes on when your sleeping so I don't understand the need for taking it off when your sleeping. I can understand for some cooking or washing your hands and showering that kind of stuff because I take off my rings when I take a shower and that is because I put oil on my body right after showering, then my rings go right back on my finger, as well as my necklace goes right back on my neck. I just wish someone would answer my question as to why someone would take off their ring or rings to sleep?

When you are sleeping there is a chance of the prongs getting caught in the sheets which will loosen stones and cause loss of stones as well. I work at a jewelry store 🙂

I take it off for a lot of things actually. I'm hoping to get a silicone one soon! I work at an art school with preschoolers and elementary schoolers so I am constantly using paints and messy materials and I never want it near my ring! I'm scared of losing it so I often leave it at home.

I also take it off when I go to the beach, go swimming, shower, sleep, cook, the list goes on and on haha.

I take it off for showering and house cleaning only. I probably should take it off for sleeping, but I can't seem to part with it.

I take my ring off when I sleep, shower, swim, wash dishes, cook (only if I am using raw meat, eggs, or something that will get all over my hands) and when I put lotion on. Sometimes when I wash my hands I take my ring off briefly to wipe it dry. If I don't dry it then the water underneath and around that finger will bother me and make the ring slide all over. I do not normally wear any jewelry, so it has taken some time to get used to wearing it majority of the day, but I am starting to get the hang of it. I love my ring!

    Hi Trina,

For me personally, I take my ring off to sleep because I sleep on my side with my hand in between my face and the pillow. It stabs me in the cheek and is just a bit uncomfortable in general. It gets caught in my long hair and stuck on my fuzzy blankets. I have slept with it on, but I prefer to sleep without it.

You really dont need to take off your ring for much. Diamonds can cut glass, you arent going to hurt it. Mine stays on all the time unless I work out because I box and that would really hurt. Shower, cook, clean, stays on for all of it.

You should insure you ring however! The more often you take it off the more likely you are to lose it.

I never take it off but to clean it!!! Sad to say right now it's being resized. My hand feels naked. I never realized how much I fiddled with my ring until now!! I'll get it back by September 3rd...ughSmiley cry
