When does the bride's name go first?

Mrs. Turner2B, on July 19, 2010 at 4:39 PM Posted in Planning 0 22

I put my name first before FS' on our Save the Date, formal invitations and wedding website. But..then I received a Save the Date from a friend who put the groom's name first. Did I mess up?

I put his name first..just becasue when i figured that was right.. like when the pastor announces you he says mr and mrs... his name being first..and he goes first when saying all the vows so i just assumed. but i dont think it matters. no worries.

I think it's which ever sounds better! If the names are two different lengths, I think the longer one first?

I really don't know if there is any hard and fast "rule" regarding this, but it just seems to me that prior to the actually ceremony, the bride's name comes first. Once the ceremony takes place, the groom's name comes first. Not sure if that is any sort of "rule," it's just something I've observed.

I have no clue! I put mine first on everything. Traditionally on invitations, they'd be "Mr. and Mrs. FartHead request your presence at the marriage of their daughter, Little FartHead, to Little BurpBreath, son of Mr. and Mrs. BurpBreath." Sooo...since the bride is first there, I just ran with it!

Well I was going to put his name first (initial) but when I posted a picture of my invitation, a few people said that you put your name first (the bride's). At least as far as the letters on each side of our monogram as in below. I switched it to my initial first (on the left) so I put my name first.

I was curious to know that as well. When I looked up wedding invitation examples online they always have the bride's name first so I'm guessing that's the right way

I put mine. I definitely needed to with our monogram because if I were to put his initial first then it would be his full initials and I wanted to be included Smiley smile

On the invitations, the bride's name goes first because the bride's parents were traditionally hosting. So it's:

Mr and Mrs BrideMom and BrideDad LastName invite you to the marriage of their daughter,

    Bride's Name

    to

    Groom's Name

son of Mr and Mrs GroomMom and GroomDad LastName

But I don't think it really matters. I think it's just tradition.

I think your name will always come first...the only time it comes second is after you have been married
