"When I dip, you dip, we dip" but seriously, how do you do "the dip" picture?

They look awkward because they are awkward. Do you do that in real life?

I don't think ours came out super awkward, but I could be wrong lol. I literally just stood sideways and leaned back and he just held me.

We took two dip pictures. Our photographer grabbed us from cocktail hour because the sun was setting and had us take a dip picture in front of the sunset. And then again during our exit.

I can't tell you if they are awkward because I don't have them back yet. Lol but honestly, I don't really care how they turn out because they're not really essential pictures lol.

I completely agree that they are super awkward. We did some dip pictures for our engagement session and most look weird and it definitely felt awkward. I say you can try it if you want- its not like you have to show the pictures to anyone if you don't like them/they do not look good. The picture below is the best one out of all of our dip pictures. My sister was our photographer and the hardest part with the dip pictures was getting my foot right while also having him dip me at the correct angle. I don't have a suggestion on making it not look weird we just tried it so many times that I guess after so many pictures 1 turned out decent.

Lol thanks Celia, I have seen some that I don't think look awkward. When fh and I are messing around and dancing he does dip me, really just for fun though.

Jersey, I'm sure your sunset pictures are stunning! I can't wait to see your bam! I agree not a picture I consider really important so if we don't take it nothing lost but thought we could add it to the list of fun pictures

Also, with a long dress, your foot/leg is covered up, so you won't really have an awkward leg!

Practice? FH and I dance a lot, so he dips me pretty regularly. Only thing awkward about it is my gut sticks out from engaging my abs the wrong way. Your core is where your balance comes from, so having strong abs would help. What I do is plant one foot and tuck the other.

100% unplanned and 100% spur of the moment. Neither of us talked about it at all, but it went off well and I like the picture.

You can let me know if it's awkward or not, haha.

You have to know how to do the position itself. All the weight goes on your right leg, your left leg stays extended, toes pointing down and touching the ground. You should be able to hold yourself up if your partner lets go...try to google a tutorial.

We had a dip picture, but I didn't really think about it. The photographer said "dip her" and it just kind of happened. haha

I don't think ours came out all that awkward, but we were having fun, so we didn't care! LOL

I think this is one of those things you have to be 100% committed to- or it will NEVER work. We didn't do one- because we don't do it regularly- but my dad has a dip picture with my mom- because they are hams and it's something they would normally do. It came out pretty well all things considering.

Omg our dip picture from our engagement session is AWFUL. It looks so awkward and even though FH jokingly dips me from time to time, this was posed and stiff and just not good.

Laura, I know some of my engagement pictures looked stiff, I think we were still getting used to our photographer. I am hoping we are more natural for the wedding.

Maybe if we end up doing a super awkward picture I will post it here after the wedding and we can all laugh a little at it.

The dip during the first dance is always a good one. I've seen some of those that are incredible. We didn't take any dip photos though. The circumstances just weren't right for it! My best friend and her husband have a gorgeous dip photo. They're in an archway at their church and it's just beautiful. I can't remember if he is kissing her or not but it isn't awkward at all.

That sounds beautiful Crescent. I am not sure if there is as nice a location for us to try one. I also think I would not be super upset if we do not get to the picture either. I am just excited to think about pictures since we are under 6 month till the wedding!

@Tarra - Yep that's our venue. I walked out of the house into a grove of mossy oak and magnolia trees. It was beautiful!
