When should I start the DIY projects?

*SoonToBeMrs.Kelly*, on July 21, 2011 at 4:21 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 17

I started working on my centerpieces. Only becasue it takes about 2 1/2 hrs to do one vase and I have 40 to do. Plus 40 candle holders to do the same thing too.

When should I really start doing all my other. Like flowers, kissing balls, add the sparkle to my shoes, hair clips for the girls's hair ect.... I still have a year. When did you al start?

When you start depends on how many and how complicated your projects are, and when you have time. I started my first one--the chuppah (wedding canopy)--nearly a year before our wedding.

I started as soon as I knew what I wanted.. I'm almost done with my centerpeices, going to start my table numbers tonight, started my pom streamers/banner things and hopefully be able to work on my aisle runner in the next couple of weeks, then I'll work on my STDs, the invites(I started them as far as design goes, haven't started actually printing), then as it gets closer I'm sure I'll cram my evenings with all the rest of the tiny details.. The sooner you start, the bettter.. less to stress about later.

    I agree with Jen -

As soon as we secure everything down and we know exactly what we want to do with the venue my condo will turn into our diy wedding space. Getting everything completed now will make things SO much easier and less stressful during the weeks leading up to the wedding.

I have been working on stuff off and on for awhile. Do what you can and have room to store when you have the time to do it. The sooner you get them done the less you have to do when it gets to crunch time the 3 month or less mark.

I only have less than 9 months so I began as soon as I got engaged! I am not doing a ton of DIY projects, but I am having to collect items for the centerpieces since mine are not traditional in the sense. I still have A LOT to do, but I am pacing myself and working on one thing at a time so I don't get overwhelmed!!

My wedding is a year from now and I have finished most of my projects. I have a few things left that can not be done yet like my centerpieces. They are crystal trees and I will have no place to keep them safe from the cat for a whole year LOL. I would say start working on everything now. You don't want to spend the week before your wedding turning into a bridezilla because you have a million things to do.

Just work on them whenever you have time and feel up to it.

I have DIY'ed a ton of stuff, as some of the ladies can tell you.

I started getting tired of doing them and have been slacking off.. and this week has been a kick in the butt because I've been unemployed for the past 4 months and instead of working on my projects, I kept putting them off... well I just got a new job which starts on the first and I know after working I will probably be too tired to do my projects.. so I've been in crunch mode trying to get them done this week.

Luckily, you have plenty of time.. but just start on them now.. as soon as you know what you want, start working on it.. even if it's a slow start. You definitely do not want to wait until the last minute

Most of my wedding is DIY since we are on a budget and I started when ever we nailed down our ideas. I had just about everything done about 6 months before the wedding. When we got them done I moved them closer to our reception site (lived in NY reception in MA). After talking with our reception hall they said they would be happy to store stuff for us! It's nice knowing that everything is done with 4 months left (and starting a new job!) It's never too early to start, but it can be too late. Good luck!

I'm starting now with things that can be done early. I'm done with my hangers, and I'm starting my flowers pretty soon. I also already bought most of the things for the centerpieces.

If you do store them and get dust- can of air works wonders.
