When should wedding invitations be sent?

Jennifer, on February 14, 2016 at 1:55 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

Happy Valentines Day or in my world Happy Walking Dead Day lol

So here is my question, a little over half our guest live out of state.

When should I send the actual wedding invitations to those people if my RSVP date is May 20, 2016?

Did you send STDs? If you did, there really isn't any reason to send them any earlier than your in-state invitations. Standard invites are usually sent 8-10 weeks before the wedding

Yes I sent Save the Dates in December 2015.

So our RSVP cards say respond back by 5/20/2016 (but our wedding is 6/25/2016), when should I send the invites out April 20, 2016 or earlier...

Most of my guests are out of state too and I sent mine the middle of January to give everyone plenty of notice. I previously had sent STDs in October.

The frustrating part is I'm finding out about people's RSVPS via the hotel room block reports rather than email, reply cards or phone calls! :-(

I think middle of April is totally acceptable. A decent number of my guests are out of state too, but I put the website on the STDs so they could have travel/lodging information.

Kristina K., I have the perfect solution for your guests who do not send you back their RSVP cards (see attached picture). Since you know they booked a hotel to come but did not send the RSVP card put them at table 20 lol

I planned to send ours 9 weeks before the wedding, 5 weeks before the deadline. However, FH is afraid people on his side aren't going to show so he's anxious to send them out earlier. I would be hesitant to send them more than six weeks before the deadline bc people might toss the invite to the side thinking they have plenty of time to respond only to forget all about it.

Our article on When to Send Wedding Invitations says that for most weddings, sending invitations about six to eight weeks before the event is right, and you can set your RSVP deadline for about two to three weeks before your wedding. For destination weddings, two to three months before the event is right to send out wedding invitations, with an RSVP deadline for about six weeks before the wedding day.

For a late May RSVP date, and considering many of your guests are out of state, I'd send the invitations around the middle of March, but early April could work fine since you sent Save The Dates.
