When should wedding invitations go out?

Mrs.cahenzli, on June 7, 2018 at 12:46 PM Posted in Planning 0 10
My wedding is oct 6th and I am doing a buffet style meal where I dont need to give a head count for the caterers. With that being said when should I mail my invitations and when should I have my RSVPs be done? I appreciate everyone Smiley smile

Invites go out 8-6 weeks before the wedding. If you have a lot of guests from OOT you can send 8-10 weeks before the wedding. So for an early october wedding you can send them early August.

We are having a DW wedding on Oct 8th and need to have our numbers for the venue by Sept. 1st so we are sending them out in July sometime. I'd like to say the beginning but also I know us so let's say middle to end of July.

Are you sure you don't need a headcount for your caterer? We are doing a buffet, and they do a month before the wedding. We are sending our invites out 2-3 months prior, with an RSVP date of a month before.

I have the same date and are also having a buffet style meal. Our caterer DEFINITELY needs a head count to ensure that they make enough for all of our guests and vendors. Sounds kind of sketchy that your caterer or yourself think that not having a head count is okay.

But, to answer your question, our invitations will be going out late July to early August (people will have to fly in but save the dates also went out so we're not sending out invitations earlier just to account for that). Our RSVP date is set for September 1 but that's because THE CATERER requires our final head count two weeks before our date which means we'll have two weeks to track all the non-responders.

I have seen this buffet/Rsvp correlation a couple of times today and I don't really understand. Just out of curiosity are you doing open seating? If you aren't, you need RSVPs to put together a seating chart. Your caterer absolutely should want to have a headcount. If you invite 125 people and 85 accept thats a pretty big difference in terms of food/cost.

We don't actually have a caterer. We are just ordering a bunch of food from an Italian restaurant. But that really doesn't matter. When should I put for the rsvps to be back?

Send out invites 6-8 weeks before your wedding and have the RSVP date 2 weeks before so you have time to make a seating chart.

The advice from our experts in When to Send Wedding Invitations says that for most weddings, sending invitations about six to eight weeks before the event is right, and you can set your RSVP deadline for about two to three weeks before your wedding. For destination weddings, two to three months before the event is right to send out wedding invitations, with an RSVP deadline for about six weeks before the wedding day Smiley smile

6-8 weeks before the wedding is when they're sent out but you may want to add a couple weeks to account for the Covid delay of mail.
