You should ask 10-12 months before the wedding. I just asked each of them in person when I saw them around that time. I didn't give them gifts for saying yes to being in my wedding, I gave them thank you gifts the morning of.

I would definitely ask between 9-10 months just due to the fast that you don't want to ask someone and then have a falling out. I bought them all a bracelet and asked them.

I asked 18 months out. I got them a few trinkets but their main present was a custom necklace with their birthstones and the birthstones of their spouse/kids. Plus I paid for their hotel and hair/makeup. We all live in different states so I sent a decorated card to ask.

I asked my girls a little over a year before the wedding because that’s when I went dress shopping and I wanted my MOH and future sister in law to come with me, so I asked them both that day. I made small boxes for each girl that had a card with the wedding colors on it, a photo of us, and a customized “proposal” card that I wrote a note on asking them to be in the wedding. I also added little bottles of champagne, a champagne flute, candle and sage stick ( because the girls will be wearing sage green 🙂)

September 2021 and I have asked 4 out of 5 already. I am 100% confident those 4 will still be strong friends by the time of my wedding. I am unsure if the 5th will want to due to long distance and finances, but I still want to give them a long time to think about it and/or plan.

We asked a year out, most of our party is also family (or friends from grade school that won't change) I gave my girls a three wick candle, personalized cup and a lotion that I felt like matched their taste. I plan to also get them jewelry for the wedding and a robe/ shirt to get dressed in.
