Beginner September 2022

When to begin??

Dylan&Hana, on February 18, 2021 at 12:05 PM Posted in Planning 0 6

We just set a date for October 1, 2022. That’s around 550 days out. I just graduated college and we are in the process of having a house built in North Carolina. It should be done end of March. Currently, we live in Michigan and will be getting married in Grand Rapids, MI because ALL of our family lives here. There is so much currently going on right now and I would love to get the chance to pay off my student loans before beginning planning our wedding. But how long should I allow myself to get my ducks in a row before adding in the wedding planning?

I would at least get a venue booked sooner than later because of people postponing their weddings due to Covid. Otherwise, I think you can wait a bit on everything else.

Agreed with PP to book the venue sooner rather than later especially with postponements and October being one of the more popular months. We booked our March 2022 venue back in December 2020 and it was already the last Saturday evening available. After you have the venue booked, I'd also start looking into photographers as they also tend to book out quickly.

It's OK to prioritize other things in your life and start planning when you're ready. That being said, until you book a venue, you don't have a wedding date set. First thing to decide is whether you want to get started on the venue search now to secure a particular date, or wait until you have less going on and then start from there and potentially adjust your timeline back a little bit.

    Congrats!

My wedding is planned for August 2022 and we had a call with the wedding planner this week. We've already booked the 'core' things as she calls it: chef, musicians, church. She comes with the venue so venue/accomodation for us and guests is also taken care of. She's happy to wait a few weeks to book smaller things like MUA.

With covid, so many people are pushing back their weddings. We had venues and caterers already tell us they’re booked for our date (October 8, 2022). If you can I would at least get the big things booked ASAP: venue, caterer, planner/day-of-coordinator (if wanted), and photographer.

I recommend booking a venue and caterer ASAP if you are set on that date. We just booked our venue for 2022 and all the venues we looked at were completely booked for Saturdays in October already. I'm thinking because many weddings have been postponed due to covid and because October is a very popular month in NY (as well as many other states that have great fall foliage, I'm sure). Even though October is further out, it booked up before Spring months (luckily we were looking at Spring months).
