When to do trial

I am sure this question has been asked but I know it is suggested to do the trial on a special day but I luckily as a teacher got a bit of a bonus in my check (happy dance) and thinking to do my trial now. Would that be too early? Should I wait?

I did mine the month before! That way my hair would be close to the same length it would be on my wedding day. It made me so excited for my wedding but didn’t give me enough time to doubt my hairstyle or makeup choices

I don't have a special event to do my trial for, so I just picked a day a couple months before my wedding. If you don't have an engagement shoot or bridal shower or some other reason to have your hair/makeup done, then I think you should pick a day that is optimally timed before your wedding.

I am doing my hair and make-up trial on April 3 and our wedding is May 30. My salon generally books 3-4 weeks out, so doing it about 8 weeks ahead of time gives me enough time to schedule a second trial if I need it, but is close enough to the wedding that my hair and skin should be more or less similar, as it's unlikely the length or health of my hair will change much. Hopefully I am good about keeping up with SPF and my face doesn't get too tan in those 8 weeks!

If you do your trial too far in advance, it will be more difficult for your stylist to remember what they did and any major changes in that time can impact the final results (such as coloring or cutting your hair, or your skin being several shades darker or lighter depending on the time of year).

You can always call your salon and ask what they recommend!

Nothing is too early. I had 2 trials and one was meh, and the other had great make up but just OK hair. I'm 11 days from my wedding and still am undecided, but trials are expensive!! If I had more time I would have started earlier.

LOL the place I want to use I have confidence in so I am sure they will do fine. I will probably do it a bit earlier than planned.

So lucky!! I’m planning mine from out of town and I have very curly hair, and brown skin (for make up). It’s hard finding people you can trust

I understand. I am African-American so finding someone that can style my hair and do my make up is what I take into acct. Luckily we decided to stay local. The place I found was through a friend who is also black and used for her wedding and I see their pics and they use a variety of people of color.

I’m doing mine on my birthday so I get to use it. It’s 8 months in advance but I rather do it now and know it didn’t work and be able to find someone else in a reasonable amount of time than to have to scramble and find some with a 2/3 months to spare.

That was my thought too. Doesn't work out time to find someone that is better but I think the HMUA I want to work with will be great. Did my friend who is the same complexion as me and love her work in pics.

Awwww that was sweet of her. Yeah I definitely want to do it a day that I have something going on even a date night or even a trip around the mall or an outing with ladies. I wanna make sure it lasts awhile.

I did my makeup trial in July for my wedding in October. it was actually really great to see how my makeup held up with a lot of sweat because it was a super hot day! I did my first hair trial in August, but then decided to go with a different hairstyle so I did a second hair trial a couple weeks before my wedding. there isn't any need to do your trial like 6 months in advance, but make sure you have enough time to do a second trial just in case you don't like it!
