Engagement parties are typically hosted by someone else as it’s rude to throw a party to celebrate yourself. Usually they’re within 3-4 months of the proposal.

Do it when you want. Usually, it's shortly after your proposal. Some says it's rude to throw your own but that means it's rude to have a reception or to throw your own birthday party. SO... to each their own.

Engagement parties are usually thrown very early in the engagement, usually within a few months of getting engaged. This is still the case even if you are planning a long engagement. I had a look in the ideas section for any inspiration or advice that could help you.
