When to plan engagement party

Briana, on January 26, 2020 at 7:14 AM Posted in Parties and Events 1 6

Hey Everyone!

I was just curious as to when or how soon you planned your engagement party? And what type of parties did you have? Or why did you decide not to have one?

My fiance and I got engaged the 6th of this month and I'm curious as too if there is such thing as "too late" or what not. I don't have a relationship with my mom or sister, and his Parents are in FL for the winter. So I think I'd have to put one together if I wanted to have one.

Thanks!

We had a gathering at one of our favorite pubs 2 weeks after the engagement. We texted our local friends and family that we were going to celebrate our engagement. . We had a huge turnout, we bought a bunch of appetizers and people bought their own drink People on here will say it’s not etiquette to plan your own party (whatever) but ours was just an informal night of awesomeness .... we were riding the engagement high and it’s a night I’ll always remember! I love our pics from that night. Good luck and congrats!

Engagement parties are typically within 2-3 months of the proposal. There's technically no such thing as "too late," but most people would find it odd to celebrate an engagement a year after the proposal.

We had an engagement party a month and a half after we got engaged. We had one specifically for our friends since our friends live all over the country, and we wanted to be able to get everyone together for a night of celebrating with us. Plus, we got engaged in December, so we had already seen our families after the engagement because of the holidays. We kept things pretty casual, just asked a brewery/winery in the area if we could reserve a big table and a couple of couches for a few hours on a Saturday. They let us do that for free, and they let us decorate, so we got balloons, table runners, and little glass jars with artificial greens in them. We also paid for everyone's first drink, and we set up a box for song requests for the wedding. My mom made a TON of appetizers, and we bought cupcakes for dessert. We set up a Facebook event instead of sending individual invitations since we were keeping it casual. Overall, we had about 20 people and spent $350 for everything (definitely could have spent less if we didn't pay for drinks). It was a lot of fun! We even went out drinking at a couple other bars after.

We had a bit of a special situation. We are planning our Engagement Party 3 1/2 months after our engagement. It was planned that way because of a cousin who will have just come off chemo about 2-3 weeks prior.

But I do agree with most, 1-3 months after the engagement seems like the ideal time.

We didn't have an engagement party, no one offered to host one. Typically they happen within a month of the engagement (maybe 2). We had a bachelor & bachelorette party, and a bridal shower. Both happened within 2 or so months of our date.

We were thrown an engagement party in May, we got engaged at the end of Feb. our friends threw it at their beach house it was an I Do BBQ. My mom had the food catered and we had an acoustic singer out on the back deck. It was amazing! We ended the night with pool karaoke! There were approx. 60 people invited. This is where we asked our bridal party if they would participate.
