When to send our thank you cards?

Sharay, on July 18, 2019 at 8:02 PM Posted in Married Life 0 16
I just got married on Sunday! When do I send out thank you cards? I know I have to wait to get pictures from the photographer and things like that so when do I send them out?

As soon as possible. Within 3 months at the most is what most sites will tell you.

ASAP. You'll see 3 months to a year listed on websites but anything passed 3 months is kind of long.

Etiquette says you have 3 months, but I think that’s too long. You don’t have to wait for pictures. If your photographer has a turnaround time of more than a couple weeks, I would ask for a preview or just do cards without pictures.

Why do you have to wait for pictures? You can send your thank cards right away. We asked our photographer for a specific picture for our cards so I could get them out....just an idea.

I wouldn’t wait for pictures, I would get them out ASAP. Most guests don’t care about getting a wedding picture.

I did mine 6 weeks later, and here's why...
    1) Honeymoon is priority
    2) Name changes on bank account and d.l.
    3) Deposit gift checks (make sure they haven't bounced)
    4) Gifts still coming in the mail

**You want to reference the gift in the note--that takes time when you have a large guest list.

Three months is too long especially if you're having a housewarming soon after the wedding; guests won't get you anything else if they feel they aren't going to get a thank you card for the wedding gift.

You can absolutely wait for your photos. I plan to as well.

    You have 3 months.

I suggest writing them out as soon as you are able. I sent mine out the following week since I wasn't sending out pictures with them and thought I'd simply forget later on!

General rule is immediately for gifts received before the wedding, within six weeks after the wedding for those received at or after the wedding. If this isn't enough time to get photos, then you are better off sending notes without photos than delaying until you get photos.

I think I dropped mine in the mailbox exactly a month after. We had pictures taken on our minimoon and i waited to get those back. People loved it! I’ve had so many people tell me how much they loved the card, and that they’ve kept it! My sister still has hers hanging on the fridge. I got married 6 months ago!
I say you can wait a bit, but not too long. You can also ask for a sneak peak or a specific picture (i had to ask my photographer for one picture for something else, and he sent me 10!).

I am so not a procrastinator so I sent out my thank you cards from the shower 2 days after and considering we aren't leaving for our honeymoon until 5 days after the wedding, I will be sending out wedding thank you cards before we leave but I think within 3 months is standard.

I personally started on mine immediately just so I could get them out of the way. But you have about 3 months.

You dont' need pictures on your TY's. I would grab a large pack of notes at Wal-Mart or something and send them ASAP.
