When to send out wedding invitations?

Kira, on June 28, 2021 at 9:59 AM Posted in Planning 0 9

When do you send out wedding invitations? I’m getting married on November 6th this year, and I’m getting anxious and want to send them out soon!

We sent out Save the Dates back in February, but there’s so much more wedding information we have now that I want to share. Our invitations just arrived in the mail so I’m ready to address and assemble them - can I get started??

When do you send out wedding invitations? How many months before you send wedding invitations??

I definitely would start sending them out now! Typically it’s 3 months prior to your date

When do your caterer & other vendors need a final headcount? Send 6-8 weeks before that. Right now seems way too early to send them out - if you do it now, you'll be waiting on RSVPs for three months and trust me, that will be painful, Lol.

    Now is much too early!
Beginning of September (about 8 weeks before the event) is standard, and plenty of time. I would not advise sending them out any earlier than 10 weeks before your event. Give it at least another month otherwise they’re more likely to get lost and forgotten

We’re getting married a week before you and sending invitations mid September. I’m not sending them any more than 6-weeks ahead. Our guests received our save-the-dates, which means they already know when and where the wedding is. So honestly, at this point, people know whether they’re attending or not. So I feel 6 weeks is more than enough in our situation.

We are getting married October 7th and are sending out our invitations on July 6th/7th (whichever day I can get to the Post Office) with an RSVP date of August 29th. I think if you sent yours now, it would be too early. Wait until 8 week mark or 8 weeks from when you need your final head count. Also give yourself a few days to contact those who don't respond.

You do not send them earlier or later than 6-8 weeks before the wedding. Do not let anyone tell you otherwise. They get lost and forgotten if you do send them early, and guests will feel like they are unimportant last second additions if you send them later.

6-8 weeks ahead of the wedding date is standard. 8 weeks if you have a lot of out-of-town guests so they can make arrangements. for our October 26 wedding, we mailed them on August 20. our RSVP deadline was September 28.

Hi Kira! Did you include a link to your wedding website on your Save the Dates? You can add all that new wedding information to your website as well!

Wondering when to send out wedding invitations? The answer is six to either weeks before your wedding! 💌

If you have international wedding guests or are having a destination wedding in another country you can send those wedding invitations out earlier - about 12 weeks before your wedding.

I also recommend asking your caterer when they need your final guest count and meal choices, and make your RSVP deadline at least a week before that date. (So that you have time to track down any guests who didn’t respond in time!)

This article has lots more details on invitations etiquette and tells you how many months before you send wedding invitations:

I still have a long way to go (My wedding is October 2022) - but I feel like I would be just as antsy!! The anticipation!! LOL! But I think you should be patient and wait 6-8 weeks prior to your wedding - that way people don't misplace the invitation and it still gives them enough time to block out the date (which they should have done already if they received the save the date!)
