When to send Save The Dates?

Samantha, on March 12, 2019 at 2:26 PM Posted in Planning 0 6

My FH and I are planning on an early June 2020 wedding. At first we were thinking August 2020 so we scheduled our engagement shoot for August 2019. Is August/September 2019 too late to send Save The Dates if most of our guests will have to travel for the wedding?

Save the dates should go out 6-8 months before the wedding. 10 months is fine if you have lots of out of town guests, but September definitely isn't too late. I wouldn't send them any earlier than that.

Hi! I am June 6th 2020! I will tell you I have asked this question and am not following the etiquette on this. We have scheduled out engagement shoot for late July 2019 and will be sending out save the dates in early August and then sending out invitations around Jan. or Feb. 2020. All of my family/ family friends will be traveling from different states so giving them a little less then a year to plan I thought was good and also flights can start being booked 6 months in advance so we thought Jan. or Feb. was the perfect time to get those invitations out.

Nope, you are good to go. I just sent mine out last weekend, exactly 8 months ahead of time. 6-8 is recommended if the majority of the guest list is local, 10-12 if it is a destination wedding or the majority of guests are from out of state.

Nope! Septemer-November would be the perfect time for save the dates to go out. Everything I read when decided when to send mine said 8-10 months before the wedding.

No, I don't think so. We sent ours out 10 months in advance with an insert with our main hotel block, and we already have 25 rooms booked in our block (we have over 100 out of state guests).

Hey Samantha! That timeline for sending save the dates sounds perfect. Are you feeling ready for your engagement shoot? Where will you take the photos?
