When you might not be able to afford a Wedding Photographer

Photography was one of the things that I prioritized and really really wanted for the wedding. But I am really having a very difficult time fitting it into the budget, enough that we may either cut it out or provide disposable cameras to the guests.

I'm having a really tough time with this. The cheapest photographer that i'd want to go with is 2 photographers, unlimited coverage, included engagement session, and highly recommended by friends and family for $2500. I really really want to go with them but that only leaves about $1500 of our wedding budget (without cutting into our 3.5k-4k honeymoon budget which I'd rather not cut into) for the non big ticket items like floral (which isn't high on my priorities), decor (which I plan to go pretty much all DIY), and the rings. Which strikes us as being very very tight to fit that all ito 1.5k.

I'm also torn because an option i've seen is to get disposable cameras for people but have seen such overwhelming distaste by everyone here and on other blogs for. but it would free up so much of that money that could be used for extra padding in the honeymoon.

So I'm going so back and forth on this and this is frustrating me to pieces because I really want it, and I can't really cut much else. We have cheap and fun catering, our MC is professional and only about 1.1k (we could cut but an MC is really nice to have organizationally), dessert is nicely priced and my dress is beautiful and only 415$. Even our Venue we found really nicely priced for an awesome barn location (2.4k).

Will I really miss photos like I think I will? Will I hate lower quality photos of the guests? I'm so torn.

“All your going to have?!” Seriously? Not like your marrying your best friend and have them 🙄.

This is over a year old.

The result is we decided to hold the wedding off until all debt was paid. Now that that’s out of the way we’ve actually gone in the exact opposite direction.

When I wrote this I was wrapped up in the “Perfect Wedding” and excited at the chance to personalize the wedding. What I didn’t know was I was only personalizing within the “typical wedding” framework. Ie everything you see in a wedding planner book.

Our new direction is to choose the absolute fundementals that we actually care about and work within that. For me it’s:
    - low stress (seriously I don’t need another source of stress)
    - being able to say the words we want to each other.
    - no justice of the peace (a tad too impersonal)
    - celebrating with very close friends and family

So within that, we’ve got several choices but most likely we’ll elope and do some sort of joint meal (or several so that people don’t have to travel for what I want to be low stress and casual) to celebrate. Photography has become so unimportant to me it’s laughable that I wrote this. Obviously I’m going to have some pictures but I don’t care about professional ones.

No, I decided that the most important thing was to say what I need to say to the man of my life. Everything else is superfluous especially when it pushes you in a direction that isn’t really for you.

Ask your photographer if he accepts monthly payments with a credit card. I hired Adrian Bonet for my destination wedding in Mexico this way. I am still paying for it because he costs a lot, but it is worth every penny.
