When your vendor doesn't respond

WWKatie, on January 6, 2016 at 10:17 AM Posted in Planning 0 27

I'm 10 days out from my wedding right now (ah! going crazy!) and haven't heard back from my florist for almost a month. I emailed her on 12/7 and she responded 12/9 that things were crazy with the holidays coming up but that she'd send me an updated invoice the next day. Okay, totally understandable, no big deal!

I didn't hear from her the next day or the day after, so on 12/18 I emailed again. No response. Again, Christmas, I get it. SO I waited and emailed again on 12/30. Keep in mind when booking, etc. they established email as the best form of correspondence. I still haven't heard back, so on Monday I called and left a VM. No return call 2 days later now.

I'm slightly panicking. If I don't hear by noon, I'm going to call again, but what do I do if they don't answer/call back?

I need an updated invoice, as well as to est. where they're delivering the florals NEXT WEEKEND.

Is it feasible to personally go to their location?

Do they have a physical shop that you can stop in at? That would be my next step, as soon as humanly possible. Also, if they have a public social media page, a lot of places will respond to things left on their wall. I know that sounds petty and public but it could be a last ditch option.

Yeah that is weird for your wedding to be 10 days out. If you don't get a returned phone call or email today. I would drive to the shop to see what's going on.

Aren't you getting married in Ft. Lauderdale? I can go stop by if you wish.

Unfortunately, the wedding is in West Palm Beach (where the shop is located) and I'm in DC. I was considering calling my FMIL tonight to ask her to stop by this week if she can, but I wasn't sure if that was excessive?

This happened with my photographer, although not quite as bad. Then she called me a week out acting like I hadn't been trying to reach her for weeks. I second (third?) the idea of going to the shop if you can!

ETA - just read your latest comment. I would definitely have your FMIL do that if you can. I don't think it's excessive, you've been trying to reach them for over a month!

I 100% agree with Jeanne. Stop by or post on social media, that will certainly get their attention. If stopping by isn't feasible I would have that redial button worn out on my phone and just blow them up. The amount of time between your last communication is far too excessive.

Back-up plan: Costco/grocery store florals? It would suck, but I agree it seems weird that they are MIA so close to your wedding. Definitely visit in person.

ETA: No I don't think it's excessive to ask a fam member to stop by in person since you can't yourself.

Hi WWKatie. I would call and find out when the person you're working with will be there and stop in. This has got to be very frustrating for you.

I don't think having your mother in law stop by would be excessive at all.

Do you have a cell number? My florist texts me in response to my emails (weird, I know, but it works for her) But maybe they will be more able to respond to a text message? If not, yes, definitely try and go by their location!! But Yay home stretch!!! Smiley smile

I had the same issue with a vendor who actually didn't respond to me in like four months! I figured since my wedding was so far away it wasn't an issue. But I had paid a deposit and wanted some reassurance that the location change wasn't an issue. Phone calls, emails, text messages. Basically I had enough and contacted the business owner. He was wonderful and made up for it all. I would definitely have someone stop by for you. You have every right at this point to be worried and there really isn't any excuse for not answering you.

I think the thing that makes me mad more than anything is that within this time of not responding, they cashed a check that we sent.

That is so stressful! I would try calling again (not at lunch time if possible). I don't think you're being excessive. Good communication is important for a business.

I think you have definitely reached the point of someone physically stopping in to see what is going on, especially since the check has been cashed. I think half of wedding wire would be on their way to palm beach right now if we could!

Wow they cashed a check in the meantime?! I would be highly pissed. Within this time frame, I don't think a drop in is excessive at all.

That must be so stressful! I hope you get a hold of her and that there's an explanation and your florals turn out perfect!
