Where are my fellow low budget brides ($10k or under)?

Budget seems to be kind of a hot topic on a lot of wedding sites. I have not had the snottiness on this site regarding budget, but I left another well-known wedding site a few years ago due to brides getting fairly nasty if you chose not to spend upwards of $15K to $20K on your wedding. I'm not, at all, judging people who spend way more than I would choose to on a wedding. They are just not my tribe, for lack of a better way of putting it. I'm looking for my people. Smiley laugh

Low budget brides...some questions.

1. What is your budget? Is it strict or flexible?

2. Why did you choose that budget?

3. What are you doing to save money on wedding expenses?

Our budget is $3K to $4K, We gave ourselves a range. We are comfortable spending $4K, but would like to keep it as close to $3K as we can. So, even though it is flexible in that way, we are pretty strict with not going over $4K. Our venue/food/drink takes up half of our budget.

We chose that budget because we're not getting married for 2 years yet and we can fairly easily save this amount of money without any huge changes to our current lives. We already live together. We're established. We have kids who will need fairly expensive things within the next few years. We don't want our wedding to be financial strain on us.

To save money on wedding expenses, we're keeping it small (under 50 people). We're doing the unthinkable and not hiring a professional photographer (a DJ was more important to us). We're getting our cake made at a grocery store bakery. My dress was less than $100. We're having our ceremony and reception in the same place.

I love this one, but my main goals are something satin, either long sleeves or off the shoulder and that's about it. I tried on a trumpet/mermaid and I loved it so not sure about a set style lol

Oh I got the deal of a lifetime on my dress. When we were first engaged whenever my FH and I were in a thrift store together, which is like a 3 times a month thing. I would pick out the nearest "ugly" wedding dress I could find and put it on to tease him. Like putting on a huge 80s style cupcake dress and asking him if he thinks I look pretty in it. Well while playing this game I accidentally tried on one I fell in love with.

My friend who is going to altar my dress originally wanted to make my dress from scratch but the price I got on this dress out of sheer dumb luck made even just buying material for him more expensive. My dress, cathedral length veil, and hair piece all together cost $47. Oh and my MOH is buy/making me custom bridal converse as a gift so like I said I just really lucked out in that area.

    1. What is your budget? Is it strict or flexible?

Originally 5k, but expenses are looking closer to 7k so more flexible, but we cut the honeymoon.

    2. Why did you choose that budget?

We knew spending over 10k for a wedding would give us regret later.

    3. What are you doing to save money on wedding expenses?

    —no bridal party—54 people coming
    —brother is officiating
—bought my dress for $140 on posh mark, fiancée is wearing a suit he already owned
—consumption bar over open bar (we pay per drink vs. flat fee.)
    —dessert bar over wedding cake
—venue has no fee as long as we meet food/beverage minimum
    —no dj
    —no professional photographer
    —no favors
    —email invitations
    —no honeymoon
    —florist found through Instagram

Our budget is currently 2000, with a little flexibility from my part. We are using some of my fiancé's car fund.

I chose this budget because I knew I could definitely make do with what I have, especially when DIY-ing a lot of things in our wedding.

Somethings that have really made it easier to save money regarding our wedding is definitely the venue. My fiancé is apart of the LDS church so we get to use the cultural hall as our free venue with chairs, tables, and table cloths provided for free. They know someone in the church who can make our cake for free as well as someone who lets us rent decor for free. Using these resources have been such a big help to us! I also payed for my own dress and alterations so we didn’t have to pull from our wedding budget.

Haha. I'm not sure a consumption bar would be cheaper with our group of friends.

Yeah, it's kind of a gamble and we do have money saved in case people drink far more than we expect, but we have some attendees who don't drink or are light drinkers and all the alcohal calculators we looked at estimated $800.

I'm hoping we can get a good deal on one. It's really too early to be looking.

My budget is 5,000 and I've been quite lucky. I found a very affordable venue that includs almost everything I need. I ordered my dress online and it looks just like the pictures. I've gotten alot of decorations at thrift stores. The thing is, if you want a budget wedding your gonna have to cut a lot of stuff out, and take a few risks. Shop for stuff online, go to thrift stores and cut unnecessary expenses. Oh and vistaprint dose invitations for affordable prices.

We are spending about $10k. We want to have a really nice wedding with our closest family and friends. $10k will let us do that. Honestly, we didn’t really budget. We are being as economical as possible. We chose my dad’s home as our venue, as it is very beautiful. I shopped around negotiated with some vendors. I’m also DIYing a lot of our decorations. I’v never understood shaming based on what YOU are choosing to spend on your wedding. People need to get a hobby. You can have a beautiful wedding for $3k-$4k!

Oh, no worries. I don't care at all about what people think.

We don't plan to have a professional photographer...OH NO!, *GASP*

We'll provide SOME alcohol and anything else will be cash bar...How Dare We?

We know our people though. We are super comfortable doing things our way.

I haven't gotten to decor yet...I'm sure I'll be DIYing a lot of it.

We didnt set a budget but it will be low. We have 5 kids and other things to worry about then a wow wedding. I want it to be beautiful but not break the bank. To keep it low , I'm shopping marketplace and Ebay for things like flowers, invites ,decor . For food he wants to cook out so we can invite as many as we want and it still be cheap , although were still sticking to just family . Then well have a dessert table . The bridesmaid dresses we went after prom when everything was marked down 90 percent off. We got our daughters for $80 and omg its beautiful! My mom has to buy all her kids outfits for the wedding party. She had to many kids and I cant afford it. That way she can have whoever she wants in our wedding. She has small kids. Our venue included ceremony and venue and even has decorations for only 500 and that's for two days ! I'm excited about that. I dont see us spending over 3000 but well see Smiley smile

Our budget is about max $8000 but goal to keep it in the $7000 range. We aren’t getting married for 2 years,m and we’re young and want to also save money for other things like a future down payment on a house. Luckily our parents are also willing to help so we only have to save 3-4K our selves.

to save money we’re getting married and having our reception the same place, my aunt is a wonderful bakers so she’s making all our cupcakes and a cut cake for significantly cheaper then a bakery, I’m diying flowers, decor, and centerpieces and keeping is simple!

girl after my own heart! I went with “welp. We’re going to be just out of our bachelors degree programs and starting masters. Let’s spend nothing.” But both my FH and I have LARGE families and two large church congregations. We are anticipating close to 200 people, but our budget is leveling out around 7-8k. The budget is flexible as in if we can make it cheaper we will!

When I first started putting stuff together I went with the budget that WeddingWire starts with, and then I pruned prices from there:
    - The wedding/reception will be at my parents’ house so the venue is free, we just have to rent tables/linens.
    - His is cousin is a wedding florist and she is helping me and my bridesmaids make our own bouquets out of faux flowers from hobby lobby.
    - Azazie sells beautiful, affordable dresses my girls will buy on their own and our men will likely already have a white dress shirt/khaki pants/dress shoes. We will buy the girls’ barefoot sandals and the men’s suspenders/bowties.
    - In place of a sit down dinner, we will serve a meal to the wedding party before pictures, have the ceremony *around* 7pm and then do a dessert/coffee bar at the reception - and since there’s no dinner, we won’t need to have a full set of tables to seat all 200 people.
    - In place is a DJ, we will rent a sound system and just run the party ourselves - it’ll be super casual
    - All of our decor will be faux greenery and DIY centerpieces using found objects and yarn.

    Low budget bride here too!

    1. What is your budget? Is it strict or flexible?

Under $10k and strict in staying under! It was $5k but found that was a little too tough for Southern California lol

    2. Why did you choose that budget?

Base on what we had in savings and could keep saving for our like 19 month engagement

    3. What are you doing to save money on wedding expenses?

Very small guest list (42 people) and at a Wedgewood all-inclusive venue! They have been great! Also, another hot topic, a weekday wedding (Monday) 😊 It works for my guest list since most are teachers (out of school for our July wedding) or guests who work during weekends anyway so requesting Monday evening off was not a big deal.

My budget is 9,000.. although we have gone over by like 200 which isnt bad ...i saved on some things to i had to switch my arch for the ceremony to wooden doors to keep it less expensive i did rental centerpeices vs real fresh flowers there the real touch fake ones they look amazing to. We didnt invite but 50 people so that cut costs to told people who were upset about not comming sorry but were paying for it on our own and cant afford anymore and ive stuck to that! So that made the cake less expensive to where i splerged a little to get my fiance a grooms cake bc he was upset about no peanut butter buttercream and few other things cake wise he wanted bc i had to explain people have food allergies and i want everyone to enjoy our cake with us . So i asked my baker to make him his favorite football team as a cake and shes excited bc i told her how happy itll make him bc he hasnt had much say then again he didnt want much say as far as wedding went lol.. i choose this budget bc venues around here are a bit expensive and the one i found that had food included and set up and tear down included in price for how many people were having was 3000 then i had to figure my dress decor flowers cake etc so took money from my taxes back and paid off most of the stuff. My dress stupidly was one of the most expensive next to venue and yea it was stupid of me but sadly out of about 16 dresses it was last ine i tried on and wasnt paying attention to prices and said for last one if this isnt it idk what to do bc i was sick of trying them on and when your a bigger girl like me its hard to find something that looks decent and still in price range so id been saving for my dress but i cut down on other things found a cheaper local talent to do my wedding pics for 1100.. which everyone else wanted 2200 and up to start so i got a steal i feel lol...good luck and hope you have a great wedding

Have a cute back yard wedding, bbq, byob etc. our budget is about 7000. I actually competing to get free wedding photography. We were going for the big wedding but quickly realized it wasn’t worth it. We rather invest the money in ourselves, the house, and honeymoon. Good luck.
