Where are my fellow low budget brides ($10k or under)?

Budget seems to be kind of a hot topic on a lot of wedding sites. I have not had the snottiness on this site regarding budget, but I left another well-known wedding site a few years ago due to brides getting fairly nasty if you chose not to spend upwards of $15K to $20K on your wedding. I'm not, at all, judging people who spend way more than I would choose to on a wedding. They are just not my tribe, for lack of a better way of putting it. I'm looking for my people. Smiley laugh

Low budget brides...some questions.

1. What is your budget? Is it strict or flexible?

2. Why did you choose that budget?

3. What are you doing to save money on wedding expenses?

Our budget is $3K to $4K, We gave ourselves a range. We are comfortable spending $4K, but would like to keep it as close to $3K as we can. So, even though it is flexible in that way, we are pretty strict with not going over $4K. Our venue/food/drink takes up half of our budget.

We chose that budget because we're not getting married for 2 years yet and we can fairly easily save this amount of money without any huge changes to our current lives. We already live together. We're established. We have kids who will need fairly expensive things within the next few years. We don't want our wedding to be financial strain on us.

To save money on wedding expenses, we're keeping it small (under 50 people). We're doing the unthinkable and not hiring a professional photographer (a DJ was more important to us). We're getting our cake made at a grocery store bakery. My dress was less than $100. We're having our ceremony and reception in the same place.

It's refreshing to know a younger bride thinks that way. We're getting married in 2021 too.

It's sweet that you're getting a Grooms Cake. That's not a thing in my circle, but I've seen some awesome ones online.

Our budget was set between 6 and 8 thousand, but I tried really hard to come in below because we have 3 kids, are trying to buy a house, and I'm going back to school in the fall. We saved by searching for the best possible deal without altering the vision too much (if that makes sense). We also cut out things that were less important to us than their price tag, used a lot of the resources available to us, and accepted help when offered. Our final number is coming in at about 4500 all said and done. Our wedding is in 10 day! If you'd like, I will gladly come back after the wedding band share my experience, the cost breakdown, and how we achieved those numbers.

I absolutely will! Here are some photos of things that are in our wedding.
Me in my dress, hair inspiration, make up inspiration, my shoes, the ceremony site, the reception restaurant, our centerpiece inspiration, the roses in our centerpieces, our menu, and our rings.

Yeah, it turned our $3-4000 catering bill (my parents live ~30 minutes from the closest town and there’s not much there) into only about $400! My family is Greek so my mom and her sisters are going to do Greek pastries while my FH’s family will make pies.

ps, we’re also students so i can design all our stationary myself and print them at the university copy center on campus for less than $200 woo!

Our budget is about $5000 but tbh I think we’ll hit $3000. We don’t have a lot of money, so this is basically the best we can do lol.
We’re using our work for catering, our venue was $300, we’re using a lot of decor from past weddings in our family, our guest list is at most 50 people, we’re doing small cake and doughnuts, etc.
Theres probably a lot more that I can’t think of 😅

It’s doable. We are getting married on Saturday and will be spending $8000 for 100 ppl. I didn’t want to cause financial strain either and honestly, the marriage is more important the wedding ❤️

    1. Goal is $5,000 but no more than $6,000, including the honeymoon.

    2. My fiancé and I feel as though our money would be best spent on other things. We also feel that a lot of the "traditional" wedding elements don't matter that much to us.

    3. We are aren't having the wedding at our church and utilizing the parish hall. All that is required for both the ceremony and reception space is a donation of a couple hundred dollars. This includes the officiant, space to get the bridal party ready, tables, chairs, table cloths, sound system, and access to a kitchen. We are doing a pizza bar for food, eliminating servers and lowers food cost. I am keeping my dress under $300. The last larger money saver is that we are asking our friends and family to help in any way they can. For example, my God mother will be playing the ceremony music.

Another hot button topic, but I like friends and family helping out where they can. I believe it makes the day more personal.
