Where did you get your ring?

Nicole, on July 24, 2012 at 8:11 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 58

I'm starting the hunt for a ring. I've looked at Zales, Gordons, Kays and even Walmart because I don't think millions of dollars should be spent on a ring. I found one on Amazon that I like, but what would people say?

Mine came from Frederick Meyer's...if you like the ring and it has good reviews I say go for it..My rings got ordered online but we were able to see them in person in the store before making the decision. FH's wedding band was a blind buy off of overstock.com but turned out great...if you can't see it in person try to find all the reviews you can on it.

FH got my ring from a small, independent jeweler, and its been worth every penny. Our jeweler is wonderful, and I think my ring is unique yet classic.

If it makes you happy it is all that matters. You could also look on Ebay and just make sure they have a good rating. There are also a lot of manmade diamond options out there too that look nice and don't cost an arm and a leg. I am actually not sure where mine came from. It wasn't my purchase to make and no one ever asked where it came from. Good luck!

Who cares what they'd say! Find a ring you love that you would be proud to wear.

If it is a diamond though, I'd make sure you had some sort of insurance or warranty. Just in case.

My ring is from Kays and I think they were great. Not real cheap but not too exoensive either. It was doable. But you have to figure out what you can afford. I spent about $700 on my band but it has diamonds in it. I am sure a plain gold band is reasonably priced.

What is your taste? Diamonds, colored stones? Silver, gold?

@Jaclyn. I love vintage styles, halo settings, something that looks antiquish.

I don't think where you get your ring is important. A ring should have three qualities, imho. It should come from the heart, be affordable to the couple and make the bride's face light up with happiness.

DH buys all my jewelry, including my e ring from Helzberg mainly because he feels since it is owned by Warren Buffet, it won't be going out of business any time soon, so the insurance is always going to hold up.

I got my diamond from USAA. If you can purchase your diamond from a jewelry wholesaler or insurance company it will be cheaper than buying it from the mall...TRUST ME

We got all our rings at Kays for several reasons. I have a Leo diamond that has a number laser engraved in the ring so can never be switched without us knowing, The lifetime warranty is awesome but you do have to have it visably checked every 6 months which is a good thing at any Kays. I think it you are going to a chain store pick one with a good reputation, I do like local smal locall stores however there just arent good ones near us esp one to carry a warranty like we have.

FH got my engagement ring from a jewelry store where I used to work. Its a C.Gonshor halo e-ring, and we purchased the matching eternity band from the same store. Locally owned jewelry stores are a good place to start! Most of them have really fair prices.

Mine is from Zales. Although I wish it was a bit bigger, I love what my FH picked and the reason he chose it. We haven't had a problem with Zales either.

I'm a Shane Co gal, always have been and always will be - but that's me. But this isn't where we bought FH's ring from - we bought that off the internet.

Now with that being said, you need to find something that fits within YOUR budget, find something that YOU like and something that has a warranty with it and that's it.

It really is that plain and simple. Do not buy something that everyone is telling to go with, or go to a store simply because everyone else does it. Do what you want to, go where you want.

My answer would pretty much be the same as Kimber's. Small, independent jeweler. Unique, one of a kind, beautiful jewelry with excellent personalized customer service.

    Same here as MrsO.

All our rings were custom designed. We also found that independent jewelers had better prices than chains.
