Where to begin???

Caitlyn, on January 24, 2019 at 11:58 AM Posted in Massachusetts Planning 0 6
I’m new here and so overwhelmed!!! I don’t know where to begin planning. What vendors did you book first? I know a photographer is really important and also the wedding band... How did you decide who to go with? How many did you meet before you booked? This feels like it’s going to be a full time job!!

Hi Caitlyn I know exactly how you feel! That's how I was. I also have only been to maybe 2 weddings in my life so I had nothing to go off of. I started first by picking the time of year colors and theme I wanted then the venue. I didnt shop around to much because I very easily get overwhelmed and over think things so too many options would have been bad for me. I only really looked at 2 places but I knew I wanted somewhere with character and more structural than a hotel banquet room. Same with the photographer k found someone who was in my price range and I liked pictures that she did. The venue is the most important thing because most of them book very quickly photographers do too but you need a date before you can book anyone. I hope this helps!

We picked a date first, decided on a color scheme or theme, then explored wedding venues. I want a black dress so I immediately started the hunt for that. Some venues take care of catering, so if not, start there. Photography, DJ/band and flowers should definitely come after the venue so you can have an idea of what you want and where it needs to go. Then you can plan decor and bridesmaid dresses.

    Caitlyn, welcome!

First of all, if you are not listening to any wedding planning podcasts yet, I highly recommend Bridechilla and The Big Wedding Planning Podcast. Wisdom, laughter, and some relief of Wed-stress!

I think one of the most important things to do first is set a date and find a venue. The venue will help to determine soo much about your wedding. What if you pick out a theme and then you find a perfect venue for the location and budget and they don't go well together? Trust me, venue first. Then photographer! That way you know they will travel there. Next, food and music. But definitely venue numero uno!!

I highly recommend going to and bridal/wedding expos in your area if you can. I found my photographer this way, but it can also be useful for other vendors as well. This way, you can meet them in person. For me, I found it also helped because I could narrow down some things by seeing what I DIDN'T want. This was very helpful.

Looking forward to chatting about all wedding things on WW with you!

We are planning our wedding very quickly. Firstly, we decided on a date. Then we decided on what kind of wedding/reception we wanted and looked for venues to support that vision. Then we found the venue. Once the venue was booked, we could focus on all other vendors because we had our date and location done and knew what to look for in everyone else.

Just started planning myself the beginning on this month.
Photographer is an old co worker of mine.
Dj is a friend is mine.
I would suggest asking around. Maybe a friend of a friend knows someone who is a photographer or DJ. If not, RESEARCH! Read comments, reviews. Call places and get prices.
Venues- we went online, look at photos, and make an appointment to physically see the place and talk to them. They tend to tell your more in person than online.
Theme (if one) I picked something that I have always loved... The rustic look & beaches. I found colors that compliment them both. But honestly you can do whatever YOU want. Pinterest helped me with ideas.
