Where to get Flowers

Shell'a, on November 17, 2020 at 3:55 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 2 20

As we all know flowers can be pretty expensive. So I came up with this idea that maybe somewhere they have like a flower garden type thing. Where you can go and pick flowers rather than paying someone else to pick them and deliver them to the wedding. Does anyone know of anything like this? Smiley flower

Not aware of anything like that. Try fiftyflowers.com which has fresh flowers super cheap (less expensive than silks) without the allergens that garden-cut flowers have.

Another option many brides on here do is order flowers from a local grocery store or places like costco/sam's club have really inexpensive bundles

There aren't farms of flowers that you can go to and cut your own, unfortunately. That's why they're so expensive. Depending on what kind of flowers you want and how much space you have, buying entire plants and cutting the flowers from them could be a more affordable option. I agree with others that Costco or a grocery store are likely the most cost (and sanity) effective route.

Our centerpieces will have no flowers. I’m going to buy fake flowers from Hobby Lobby or Michael’s for my bridesmaids, my bouquet toss & an arrangement for the top of the gazebo where the ceremony will be.

This is what our venue provides. Might get some fake tea lights.

Idk about picking your own flowers, but I got half my flowers from Trader Joe's the day before the wedding and the other half from a florist, and it worked out perfectly. It was the best of both worlds. Very affordable flowers for general decor, but fancy bouquet, boutonniere, sweetheart table setting, and cake flowers that I didn't have to stress out about day of. My florist also compromised on price by reducing the size of some of the pieces and going a little heavier on greenery over flowers.

Honestly, my florist ended up being way less expensive than I had imagined. We are providing our own centerpiece holders, and he is taking them and adding the flowers which helped save money. He’s setting up actual plants for aisle decor that’ll be moved inside after the ceremony. Using plants instead of cut flowers helped with the cost, too. He’s setting it all up, and the peace of mind that comes with that is great.

You can look into local options, too! In my area we have a flower "bar" where they have a daily selection of individual flowers and you can DIY your own bouquet.

    Dear Shell’a,

Here in Texas, there are limited options as only a few flowers bloom here locally at any given time. There’s a Tulip farm near Dallas called Texas Tulips. But their season is very short, and depending on where your married in the state, transporting them would be difficult.
However, when we lived in the Hudson Valley, in New York, there were seasonal flowers that you could hand-pick year round and you can purchase more tropical flowers when desired, for a higher price.
We’ve found that almost any area with a large amount of good (small business) restaurants, a lot of wineries or breweries, and areas to visit farms tend to have the best selections regarding pick-your-own flowers!
I hope this helps you find a place near you where you can pick fresh flowers! They’ll also be much more fragrant than a regular bouquet which really adds to the display!
    ThanksAubrianna Abbema

Search for "flower wholesale" in your area. In Florida, there is one in Jacksonville and one in Orlando that are open to the public (most are for florists only) and you can walk in and choose from their case or you can place a custom order for exactly what you need and then pick it up on a scheduled day. Keep in mind that actually making your bouquets, centerpieces, etc will also require supplies so you'll need to factor in the cost for that, as well as the time to make and set up everything.

If you are open to ordering online, FlowerMoxie sells flowers essentially as "kits" where you choose a color theme and they have different size packages depending on how much you need to make. They provide "recipes" and instructions for everything you make. They also have great videos. Even if you don't order from them, I highly recommend checking out their instructions and videos to help you determine what/how much you need.
