Where to start planning after venue is booked??

Kenzie, on December 17, 2019 at 9:55 PM Posted in Planning 1 11
Hello! I got engaged in April this year and I’m currently planning our wedding for June 2021 (the 12th or the 26th I think). I’m not able to book my venue till January which is only 2 weeks away! (Like where has time gone??) I’m planing on booking it on the 2nd but then I’m unsure where to go from there. My wedding will still be 1.5 yrs away, is it to early to start booking other things like catering, the dj, the photographer, etc? Should I just wait? But if I wait, how long? When do I ask bridesmaids??? What order should I even do stuff in? Please let me know what you planned/booked first/give suggestions that might be helpful! Thank you any advice is greatly appreciated!

I would book your photographer, videographer (if you choose to have one), & caterer pretty quickly. They tend to book up faster than other vendors, as most brides find them to be the most important.
The timeline here on WW is very helpful when it comes to planning. So use that as a guide.
As far as asking your bridesmaids... there really isn’t a rush. And I would not do it too soon. I asked mine about 10 months before my wedding.

June 12th 2021 is a pretty great date if I do say so myself Smiley winking. I would start by looking into photography they tend to book up quickly, sometimes as early as 2 years in advance.

It’s definitely not too early to book other major vendors! We booked our caterer and photographers 22 months out, about a week after locking in our venue. Benefits of this were locking in lower pricing and getting the vendors we definitely wanted (photographers being main preference). I would recommend waiting until 8 months or so before your wedding to ask your bridal party.

It’s definitely not too early but my advice is to handle each major vendor at a time. I requested quotes from videographers, Dj’s and something else at one time and I quickly overwhelmed myself. Pick a vendor type (DJ, etc), work through that one first and move on to the next. The great thing about being so far out like you are, is I was able to dedicate a month to each. This month we will pick a DJ, next month something else. Let the vendors tell you if it’s too early.

I think starting to work on your vendors is fine and to start booking them. I would wait on the bridal party till you are about a year out.

Great to know! I was super unsure what was normal so nice to see other book out far in advance as well! Plus the chance at lower pricing is a added bonus!

Thank you!! Waiting at least a year out seems to be the consensus so I think I’ll wait till then for sure!

Our wedding is January 2022 just over 2 years away. We booked our venue in November booked a photographer last week and have a consultation with a dj company this week. I found a great Holiday deal with a photographer we loved. Our venue only has 2 companies they allow for extra lighting and both are dj companies so we want to use one of the recommended ones. That’s the only reason we want to book that soon. Once dj is booked I’m planning on waiting another 6 months or so until looking for other vendors. I would recommend giving bridal party around 1 years notice.
