Currently my Finance and I have discussed it and we do have a plan but others sometimes makes it seem soo... Almost making me feel like we are setting up to fail because we are not the richest of people and don't have EVERYTHING in order right now. I know I'm not giving you enough details to fully understand but I just wanted to hear your stories.
If you are newly engaged do you already know where you both will live? Will you rent, do you already have a home? Are you staying with the in-laws until you get your own space?
Do you think persons should figure all this out before even saying yes?

No problem! I think moving from situation to the next has always been easy for us because communication is key!

I got engaged on my 21st birthday, so we definitely didn't have it all figured out, lol. I was in my junior year of college and H was in his senior year, & was applying to/had just been accepted to grad school. Our plan was to move in together after college and I would work while he was in grad school, then get married after he graduated and I'd go back to school. It's gone according to the general plan but his grad school took a year longer than planned so we got married while he was still in grad school. I worked 2 jobs while applying to law school and planning a wedding, which I don't recommend. Then we moved 300 miles back to our home state, and 10 years, 3 apartments and 4 degrees after our engagement, we now own our house in my hometown.

We're international long distance, so we knew within the first month together that he (Arizona) would move over to me (Northern Ireland).
Given our financial situation, we will be renting together initially as we can't afford to buy. Having said that, I have grand plans for creating a shipping container home in Ireland. Though that will be some years down the line, it is the end goal.

That's a rough idea of what we will end up with, although there's colours and cabinets etc still to be decided on. 🙂

Hey! I understand how hard the living situation can be, especially when things are so unsure. My fiance and I have been living together in various places since 3 months into our relationship. We have now been together for almost 4 years. We bought our house almost a year ago now! You will always find a way to support yourself if you want to be on your own! I say go for it, because you can never be 100 percent sure about things in life. There will always be things that happen out of your control. Best of luck!

My FH and I currently live with his parents (no bad blood with mine, or reason as to why we decided to live there, just kind of happened in our 6 years of dating) but we've been saving for our own house and will be house hunting within the next couple of months, our wedding isn't until September of next year.

However, due to the current housing market here in CT, I'm not confident we will be able to find a house, in our price range, that is livable and not a total remodel job. We have decided that regardless we are out of his parents house come June 2021, his parents are extremely toxic people to live with and it has gotten near impossible to live there, coming home is the worst part of my day, his mother and I do not get along, he's also miserable being there and we need out. We have decided if June approaches and we are not in a house or in the process of closing then we will be getting an apartment until we find a house.
