Which signature drink to include?

Cj, on July 14, 2021 at 10:10 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 22
Our wedding is in the fall in the northeast. Which one of the two drinks seems more appealing to you?

Drink 1 - Greyhound (grapefruit juice and vodka) on the rocks with a splash of mable syrup and a dash of cayenne pepper.
Drink 2 - Whiskey, peach juice, lemon and turmeric. Served on the rocks.

I prefer whiskey but not peach, lemon or turmeric. Ask your guests who will be attending what their preferences are

Honestly neither look too appealing because of the turmeric & cayenne pepper. I’d ask some of yours guests what they prefer. If the spices were eliminated I’d pick option 2 for sure.

Personally, I love unique spices in drinks, although that can be quite polarizing. That said, I wouldn’t drink either of these because I really don’t like drinks with a lot of added sugar/syrup. If these are a fun option alongside a full bar, then go for your favorite! Otherwise, I strongly suggest you stick to something more basic that will appease a majority of palates.

Personally, I'm not a fan of either. I strongly dislike grapefruit, so you lost me there. Another consideration for grapefruit is that grapefruit juice is actually dangerous to mix with a lot of medications, including for cholesterol, blood pressure, and even antihistamines. I also dislike whiskey, so that one would lose me as well. I agree with Elise in that I would just pick my favorite (or do both as a his and hers) if these are in addition to a full bar, or I would go with maybe something a bit more mainstream to appeal to a wider audience. That being said, you know your guests best.

I love different things but even I don’t think these are appealing. But if I had to choose it would be drink 2 because I prefer peach over grapefruit.

Oh yeah we are definitely offering a full bar with beer, wine and liquors to make the standard mixed drinks. We have the option for two specialty drink and have already picked one, the second one a bit tougher since it's down to the two I've listed.

So we are offering a full bar that the bartender will be able to the make the more mainstream drinks but we are also thinking of oferring a couple of special items to reflect the season but also maybe name them in the memories of relatives. Didn't think about the point you made about grapefruit. That's a good to know!

I would choose #1 to drink , as I hate whiskey…and peach juice for that matter hah.
BUT if it was for my wedding, I’d go for option 2, because I know my crowd in particular tends to be mostly whiskey drinkers!

Honestly as a guest, I wouldn't pick either and just opt out for either the wine options, or request another cocktail to be made lol. Also, it may just be my own opinion, but I don't think of these drinks when I think of a fall wedding. The peach and grapefruit flavors make me lean more towards spring and summer. If you won't be losing a ton if a lot of people don't drink the signature drink, then I'd go with the first one.

I don't like turmeric, so that automatically pushes me towards option #1.

I too was thinking they sounded summery . I guess the maple syrup is a fall twist but I generally think of grapefruit as summery since it is light&crisp and best enjoyed ice cold . (Of course all that said I have no issues with a summer beverage on a fall day!)

In the fall in the Northeast could you do one that is maybe apple cider-ish, or cinnamon?
Though to be honest we are probably going to have our signature drink be diet coke as a joke because we we both really like it Lol
There will he a full bat, they can get whatever drink they want, so we’re being silly with the signature drink.

Great minds think alike! The other signature is actually an apple cider one without funky spices.. Hopefully that's more of a crowd pleasure. We sent the venue six options and they selected three (cinnnimon with pumpkin was cut..) and asked us to pick two. The cider one was immediately chosen and now it's down to grapefruit cayenne vs peach turmeric lol.

Love the idea of the diet coke. Personally id totally appropriate that.

    Those all sound really good!
I’ve lost my tolerance for alcohol in my old age so two drinks have me sloshed or I would want to try them all!

I'm super picky about my alcohol and don't care for sweet drinks (I prefer my whisk(e)y neat or on the rocks), but that doesn't matter at all in your situation. Most signature drinks that get posted here aren't appealing to me.

However, since you are offering a full bar, I would pick the signature drinks that sound the best to you and your future spouse. You are covered, hosting-wise, by offering a full bar, so it doesn't really matter if your signature drinks are only appealing to a small number of guests.
