Just curious which tier of cake you plan to cut for the cake cutting ceremony? I'm thinking I want to cut the top tier and surprise FH with this coconut rum cake we saw on The Best Thing I Ever Ate. I know people often save the top tier so I was thinking of just saving the cake that's left after our tiny cut.

    Bottom tier!

Our bakery told us too btw to make sure the bottom layer is a white cake so that in case you drop it on you it won't stain. She said never red velvet. Never lol

Usually it's the bottom. The top is saved, in theory, for the first year anniversary.

We are doing the top tier, it's the only tier that's carrot cake so I want first dibs!

Generally you do the bottom so you don't start cutting into other tiers when you slice it. When a cake it actually cut the tiers are taken apart

We cut the bottom tier and saved the top. The cake had 4 tiers and 3 flavors; top and bottom tiers were the same flavor.

I think we cut the bottom tier because it looked the easiest Smiley smile We also didn't save the top tier!

We definitely need to have a spin-off post, "funny pictures of you cutting the cake"! We have a series of like 8 awkward pictures of us!

I plan on cutting which ever I feel like. We plan on eating the entire cake(taking it on honeymoon), not saving it in the freezer(yuck)

I cut into the bottom. Let me just say nobody prepared me for how difficult it would be to actually cut out something resembling a slice of cake. I was so nervous about making it topple over....it was such a struggle!! Best of luck y'all get it in one try!!

We are only getting a single layer to cut so it's a non issue- our baker makes us one for our one year anniversary as part of the package we ordered...so we don't have to freeze to save we'll get a fresh one next year...

Cut whichever layer you like- my first wedding, the cake was nasty at the one year mark! (Maybe that was an omen!! Lol)
