White sapphire?

Carissa Brittney, on March 14, 2017 at 10:13 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 17

Does anyone have a white sapphire ring? My FH and I went and picked out an engagement ring, and I do love it, but my heart was set on a pear shaped ring, which I didn't buy.

I've since found a pear shaped white sapphire ring but I know zilch about white sapphires. I have done research but was just curious to see if any WW brides/brides to be have one and what they think!

    I love mine! Super clear, easy to clean (dish soap, warm water, and soft toothbrush), durable too. It's pretty close to diamond in terms of hardness, so you don't need to worry about it getting scratched up. I've had mine on everyday for almost a year and looks as good as the day I got it. I clean it around once a month because it's so clear you can see it getting dirty really quickly.

    I love my white sapphire. They are almost as hard as diamonds, so unless you are doing something very intense everyday, they won't scratch significantly more (unlike, say an emerald which is much softer).

    It doesn't have the same "sparkle" as a diamond, but I also don't have to think about the 10 year old who mined it in abhorrent conditions for $1 a day every time I look at it.

    (And no, those "ethical" certificates aren't worth the paper they are printed on because the standards were set by the diamond industry - the only guaranteed ethical diamonds are from Canada and those are impossible to source in Europe, where we live).

    Did you want a pear shaped diamond, OP?

    If you do, but can't afford it,go with a CZ in a precious metal, or if you can spend a little more, look at Moissanite. They aren't inexpensive. but they're a fraction of the cost of real diamonds, and their fire and refraction is legendary.

    Get the ring that you want. Scroll thru many threads on the topic unhappy brides and their equally unhappy rings.

    I love my rings, white sapphire! Lots of comments of how beautiful it is, how sparkly, shiny.

    I have a white saphire pendant that is over 20 years old and it's just as beautiful as any of my diamonds.

    Thanks ladies! I didn't want a diamond specifically because of the ethics of the diamond industry... and I personally feel that diamonds are incredibly overrated. I have looked at moissanite but every ring I've looked at is so big and almost too sparkly (I know -- sounds strange but I have the smallest daintiest hands). Definitely going to keep looking!

    My MOH got herself a giant and beautiful pale pink sapphire for her rose gold wedding set and it looks wonderful for a fraction of the cost. I got a pale yellow sapphire for my e ring because I'm just not a huge fan of diamonds. It doesn't keep that sparkle for as long as a diamond would but a quick rinse or wash fixes that right up. I highly suggest http://www.thenaturalsapphirecompany.com/ if you're thinking about going the sapphire route. They have amazing selection and pretty great sales. Good luck!

    My accent stones are white sapphire, so I can't really comment on white sapphire as a center stone, but I love them! I have had my ring for over 7 months and I don't think they have lost their shine whatsoever.

    My father bought me and my mom matching white sapphire rings when I was 10 years old. Im 23 now and it looks the same as the day he gave it to me. Its beautiful and just as durable (10 year olds are not gentle on jewlery). Edit: spelling is hard

    @jessica b, getting a white sapphire isn't "fake" it's just not a diamond.

    I personally think diamonds are overrated and aren't near as rare as they're made out to be. I say, get a stone that makes you happy, is beautiful, and isn't like every one else's. :-)

    Moissanite is amazing. We found our jeweler on Etsy. It's absolutely stunning. Morganite is also great if you like a pop of color.
